The Eastchester Library Warriors , coached by Children's Librarian Jonathan Heifetz were crowned champions of the Grades 4-6 Children’s bracket at the 5th Annual Westchester Library System Battle of the Books on Saturday, October 20th. Our team was first among 17 teams, and won all six matches before defeating Briarcliff in the finals.  Over 300 young people representing 23 public libraries from across Westchester participated in the fast-paced trivia competition in which teams are quizzed on five chosen books.

The winning team members included: Cacie Beades, Will Conway, Charlotte Foley, Nora Foley, Brian LaMons, Max Lin, Justin Mylenski, Victoria Ricotta, Cayden Son, James Song and Mila Sulkowski. The 11 members earned their place on the team after demonstrating their knowledge, teamwork and commitment to attending practices.

The Eastchester Public Library also competed in the teen category. Teen Librarian, Amelia Buccarelli coached the Books Strike Back team. Participants included Claire Colasuonno, Naomi Dube, Aaliyah Han, Julia Higgins, Kelly Hyland, Ava Renzo, Sofia Renzo, Chloe Son and Minju Sung.

The Eastchester Public Library has participated in the Battle of the Books event since its creation five years ago. Julia Higgins and Sofia Renzo have been to all five Battles!

Congratulations, Champions!
And the Winner of The Great Eastchester Read is.......

In September and October, the community of Eastchester was encouraged to vote for their favorite book as featured by PBS's Great American Read Program. Our town responded enthusiatically! Over 1,000 people voted in 10 ballot boxes placed at Town Hall, town senior centers, local schools and, of course, the library. " To Kill a Mockingbird ", by Harper Lee was the winner for both The Great American Read and The Great Eastchester Read. Locally, " Gone with the Wind ", by Margaret Mitchell and the " Harry Potter Series ", by J.K Rowling came in second and third in Eastchester respectively. In the Eastchester children's category the winners were " Click, Clack, Moo ", by Doreen Cronin and the " Harry Potter Series ". Please click here to read a wonderful article from the PBS website about The Great Eastchester Read . Thank you to all who participated!
