Storrs Library Non-Fiction Book Club
Wednesday, June 29, 6:30-7:30
Come join the Storrs Library Non-Fiction Book Club! All are welcome to join us to read, learn, and discuss an array of nonfiction titles on varying subjects. Selections and their genres and topics will range in scope and detail. We encourage suggestions of titles for future meetings. Our tenth selection is In the land of Invented Languages : Esperanto Rock stars, Klingon poets, Loglan lovers, and the Mad Dreamers who tried to build a perfect language by Arika Okrent. Staff will be present to facilitate an open discussion during the meeting and you are encouraged to write down and bring your questions and thoughts.

Summary: Okrent tells the fascinating and highly entertaining history of man's enduring quest to build a better language. Peopled with charming eccentrics and exasperating megalomaniacs, the land of invented languages is a place where you can recite the Lord's Prayer in John Wilkins's Philosophical Language, say your wedding vows in Loglan, and read "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" in Lojban--not to mention Babm, Blissymbolics, and the nearly nine hundred other invented languages featured in this language-lover's book.

Register in Advance. Slots are Limited.

Copies of this month's book selection are available at Storrs Library. Check out your copy today!
