Did you know there is an amazing museum of art in the Yanceyville Municiple Building?

It is located at the end of the building by the Pavilion stage and is sometimed overlooked all together. It features the art of several local Caswell artists and features Maud Gatewood. During the Second Saturday events a new group of visitors has discovered the hidden jewel. The estate of Maud Gatewood gifted her pieces to the Town of Yanceyville and the town made their home in the municipal building.

Who was Maud Gatewood?

Our town boasts a very famous international artist Maud Gatewood that was born here in the Richmond Miles museum. She grew up in Yanceyville, tourned the world and came back to Caswell where she was the first female commissioner. More details are below.

100's of Cyclists to Stop in Caswell

Festivities at Yanceyville Pavilion
&
Cherry Grove Fire Department

Tuesday, October 5
8:30 - 2:00

In the twenty-one years since, the Mountains to Coast Ride has traversed the state using a different week-long route each year. The ride has stopped overnight in more than 100 North Carolina towns and passed through over 700 North Carolina communities. The Mountains to Coast Ride is not a race, but a recreational trek across the state using scenic back roads. The ride is designed to promote physical fitness, good health and the scenic beauty of North Carolina.

The cyclists will make a stop in Yanceyville at the Pavilion on Tuesday, October 5 between 8:30 am and 2:00 pm. Area nonprofits will be providing food and other vendors will create a festival like stop for the riders.

Cyclists will also stop at Cherry Grove VFD and Moxie Farm House (all volunteer spots filled) in Leasburg.
SMALL FARM LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITY:

Act by OCTOBER 15

Dear Caswell Small Farmers:

It is my pleasure to inform you about a new opportunity designed to help small, minority-owned farms thrive in a competitive world. The Small Farm Leadership 360 Initiative is a new program developed by the Small Farms Task Force of Cooperative Extension at N.C. A&T. It targets farmers in 17 NC counties, including our county.

The program will feature both online learning and hands-on activities, presented in four modules in November 2021, February 2022, June 2022 and October 2022. Experts with Extension and other agricultural organizations will address a wide range of topics of interest to small farmers, including farm management best practices, tax advantages for small farmers, market opportunities, farm cooperatives, and best practices in agricultural production.

In addition to online learning, the Small Farm Leadership 360 Initiative will include visits to farms and cooperatives and small group interactive sessions. Every participant will also develop a six-month best-practice action plan, with guidance from a local Cooperative Extension agent.

I am excited to see Extension supporting our local small minority farmers through this new program, and encourage interested farmers to apply as soon as possible since seats are limited. For full consideration, farmers must submit their applications by October 15. Please refer to this link The Small Farm Leadership 360 Initiative for more information and an application form that can be easily printed and mailed. Also, please reach out to me at ambanna@ncat.edu or 336 694 4158 with your questions about this new initiative.

All the best,
