Mapping the Moon: Research Tackles Volcanoes on Other Worlds, Lunar Navigation


Two Idaho State University professors hope the volcanic features around East Idaho can answer some questions about their otherworldly counterparts.


Over the next three years, Shannon Kobs Nawotniak and Donna Delparte, professors of geosciences, and their team of researchers will be working in, around, and on the volcanoes that formed in the wake of the Yellowstone hotspot’s passage through the eastern Snake River Plain millions of years ago.

Join us for tailgating from noon to 4 p.m. before the Bengals take on Northern Colorado Homecoming weekend.

CoSE Fall Forum and Social Thursday, Sept. 28


Join us for CoSE’s Fall Forum on Thursday, September 28, at 3 p.m. in Lecture Center Room 10. The Lecture Center is Building #67, near the Gale Life Sciences Building and north of the Speech Pathology and Audiology Building.


A social hour for faculty and staff will be held at Goody's Deli, 905 S 5th Ave., after the meeting. Pizza and refreshments will be provided.

Idaho Museum of Natural History Unveils Exhibit: "Dinosaurs from the Mountain"


The Idaho Museum of Natural History is excited to announce the unveiling of its newest exhibit, "Dinosaurs from the Mountain." 


This extraordinary exhibition offers visitors a unique opportunity to explore Idaho's rich past from the Age of Dinosaurs, a hidden gem in Idaho’s natural history.

FY2025 Idaho Global Entrepreneurial Mission (IGEM) Initiative Pre-Proposals Sought


Funding under this program will be awarded for competitive state university research in support of the goals of the IGEM initiative. These funds are to be used as seed funding for strengthening Idaho’s future by strategically investing in the development of expertise, products, and services which result in economic growth.


Pre-proposals are due October 30 by 6 p.m. Mountain Time. Pre-proposals selected to advance to the Full Proposal stage will be notified no later than January 10, 2024. Full Proposals will be due March 15, 2024 by 6 p.m. Mountain Time.

Nominations Open for Jean'ne M. Shreeve NSF EPSCoR Research Excellence Award


Idaho NSF EPSCoR is seeking nominations for the Jean'ne M. Shreeve NSF EPSCoR Research Excellence Award. Nominations of eligible faculty members can be made annually and are due by 5 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 28. The award may recognize a single significant contribution or an accumulation of significant contributions that have received national or international recognition.

Nominations Open for 2023 Textbook Heroes


Textbook Heroes are members of the ISU community who have promoted or adopted low-cost or free course materials, including open educational resources (OER), helping ISU students save on the cost of materials and showing an outstanding commitment to student success.


Nominees can be an instructor who has adopted OER, a student who has advocated for OER, or someone who has supported OER in an administrative role at ISU.

Apply to Become the Director of the University Honors Program


The University Honors Program is seeking a new director beginning the 2024 - 2025 academic year. The current director, Dr. Shannon Kobs Nawotniak, completes her six-year tenure as director at the end of this academic year to begin her appointment as the Department Chair of Geosciences. 


The position is 40% time made possible through a 6 credit buyout from your department per semester.

57th Western Literature Association Conference – Home on the Rez: Sovereignty and Sustainability


The Western Literature Association (WLA) will be holding their 57th annual conference “Home on the Rez: Sovereignty and Sustainability” at the Shoshone-Bannock Hotel and Casino from Wednesday, Oct. 11 through Saturday, Oct. 14. 


This year’s conference is co-hosted by Dr. Amanda Zink of Idaho State University and Dr. Jennifer Ladino of the University of Idaho in partnership with the Shoshone-Bannock Tribes.

Matt Daily Named Assistant Vice President and Dean of Students


Student Affairs is pleased to announce that Dr. Matt Daily has accepted the position of Assistant Vice President and Dean of Students.


Daily brings more than 25 years of experience in education to this position, during which time he has been involved in academic affairs, intercollegiate athletics, and student affairs, as well as K-12, as a teacher, coach, instructor, academic advisor, and academic program administrator. He has just concluded his 8th year at the University of Portland’s Shepard Academic Resource Center, where he served as the Associate Director, supervising all support efforts for students, faculty, and staff. 

Graduate School Kicks Off Fourth Annual Book Drive


The Idaho State University Graduate School is hoping to collect 1,000 books by Oct. 31 for local elementary schools through its fourth annual K-4 book drive. 


First organized by Interim Dean Dr. Tracy Collum in 2020, the Idaho State University Graduate School hosted its first K-4 book drive as part of its Grad School Gives initiative in an effort to benefit local elementary schools during the trying times of a global pandemic. With generous community donations, the Graduate School was able to collect 364 books during its first year and has been able to carry that momentum to begin its 4th annual book drive this year, sitting on an overall donation total of over 1,800 books.

Looking for some additional funds to further your professional development? Apply for the Staff Council Professional Development Award. The maximum award is $500 and can be used to pay registration for workshops, conferences, non-ISU classes or training, and travel expenses.
