What's Happening in CoSE

You’re invited to the 2025 Pillars of Achievement Reception!

We invite all faculty and staff to join us at the College’s 2025 Pillars of Achievement reception.

The event honors our 2025 Professional Achievement Award winners and Outstanding Student Achievement Award winners, as well as our Outstanding Faculty Award winners. Join us as we celebrate their accomplishments and enjoy heavy hors d'oeuvres on Friday, May 9, from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Salmon River Suite at the Pond Student Union Building.

Please RSVP by May 2, to Mary Guyton, Administrative Assistant II, at maryguyton@isu.edu or cose@isu.edu. Please include the number of guests who will be attending with you.

Congrats, Mustafa Mashal, professor in the civil and environmental engineering department, on being named this year’s Distinguished Researcher!

Great job, Chelsea Wilkerson!

Chelsea, an Administrative Assistant I in the biological sciences department, was named one of the Be a Bengal nominees for March for exemplifying integrity.

ISU began the Be a Bengal program in 2019 as we began building a campus culture based on trust, compassion, stability, and hope. In 2023, ISU's Strategic Plan outlined six core campus values. To align with these values and further highlight their importance, in January 2025, the Be a Bengal program began recognizing team members for any or all of our campus values.

Open Forums with Three CoSE Dean Finalists Scheduled

President Robert Wagner has announced the three finalists for CoSE Dean. The finalists are:

Open forums will be held starting April 22, with each candidate, and feedback opportunities will be available online after each forum. Zoom links for all open forums will be posted online.

A new leader is expected to be chosen for the College by the end of the spring semester.

Photos of the ISU Chem Club in San Diego.

Chemistry students and faculty recently returned from the American Chemical Society’s Spring 2025 Meeting and Expo in San Diego.

Over 10,000 of the top chemists and engineers from around the globe attended the event, and the group had a chance to listen to presentations and participate in career-building activities.

The group also presented a total of five posters and even brought back a couple awards! BS/MS student, Will Kimball, earned the Excellence in Graduate Polymer Research Award, and the ISU Chem Club was named an Outstanding Student Chapter.

It was great having members of the College of Southern Idaho's STEM Club on campus for an afternoon of lab tours and chats with CoSE faculty about some of the research opportunities for students at ISU!

Dean's Excellence Fund Accepting Requests from Students

The College of Science and Engineering Dean's Excellence Fund is intended to support students in their journey through ISU. The Dean's Office is particularly interested in providing financial assistance to students who might not be able to enroll in or complete the semester because of short-term financial hardships. Students seeking such support should be in good academic standing.

If you know of a student who is in need of short-term support, please have them complete this form.
