Congrats, Annik Martin and Heather Ray!
Recently, Annik Martin, senior lecturer in the mathematics and statistics department, and Heather Ray, assistant professor in the department of biological sciences, were each named a winner of the 2024 ISU Excellence in General Education Teaching Award.
Annik's award is in the Objective #3: Mathematical Ways of Knowing category. Meanwhile, Heather's is for Objective #5: Scientific Ways of Knowing.
This new honor recognizes and celebrates general education faculty who engage students with innovative teaching practices, help non-majors understand and broadly apply disciplinary methods of inquiry, and implement strategies to increase access and affordability to students.

Now, the creation of an Idaho State University professor may enable future buildings to mount a formidable defense against nature.

IASE Annual Meeting and Symposium Slated for April 5 and 6
The 2024 Annual Meeting and Symposium of the Idaho Academy of Science and Engineering is being held jointly between the IASE and the Intermountain Conference on the Environment at ISU's Pocatello campus on April 5 and 6.
The theme of the Symposium is Sustainability and the Earth's Climate.
Students, faculty, staff, and community members are all encouraged to participate and attend.

NNSA Hosting Graduate Fellowship Info Session April 8
The National Nuclear Security Administration's Graduate Fellowship Program will hold an informational meeting on Monday, April 8, at 12.30 p.m. on Zoom and in the Center for Advanced Energy Studies' Auditorium. The NGFP seeks highly motivated graduate-level students to grow as the next generation of nuclear security leaders. The one-year, salaried (with benefits) fellowships offer:
- Hands-on experience in nuclear security and nonproliferation;
- Career development, professional networking, and specialized training; and
- Extensive interaction and collaboration with leading national security technology and policy experts.

NGFP is not strictly looking for nuclear science and engineering students and is seeking students with STEM, policy, government, and social science backgrounds.

Campus Master Plan Town Hall and Open House April 11
Representatives from the SmithGroup, a firm that specializes in university campus master plans, will be on campus April 11 to present preliminary design concepts following their review and assessment of the entire physical campus and the utilization of all university spaces. They also wish to gather additional feedback from campus and community members. The Facilities Campus Master Plan will develop a framework for future campus development that will shape the future of our physical campuses including what spaces we need, how we use and develop our land, and how we present ourselves publicly with our overall campus look and feel.

Staff Council Professional Development Funding Deadline
Did you know Staff Council can help fund your training and professional development opportunity?
There are three funding periods during the calendar year. The deadline for summer opportunities is coming up on April 1.
This deadline is for training or professional development events between May 1 and August 31. These funds are available specifically for classified and non-classified employees. Please see the Staff Council website for details and application form.

College of Business to Host Second Annual Financial Literacy Week
Financial Literacy Week, held annually during the first week in April, aims to educate and increase understanding in financial planning, taxes, estate planning, real estate, insurance, and more. Events will be happening across the Idaho State University campus April 1 through 4 and include a panel discussion with local finance experts, trivia night, movie night and a variety of speakers, including keynote speaker Brian Berrett, Chief Financial Officer at Idaho Central Credit Union.

April 1 Deadline Approaching to Submit Course Adoptions
As a reminder, Idaho State University is moving to a new course material model that will reduce the cost of materials for students and ensure they have all their materials across all courses prior to the first day of class. To ensure the best student experience possible for the ISU Book Bundle model to be in place for the Fall 2024 term, please submit your course material selections by April 1.

Moody’s affirms Idaho State University’s A1 issuer and revenue bond ratings; outlook stable
Thanks to the Budget Advisory Group’s continued commitment to work toward a balanced budget, we have reduced our structural budget deficit by nearly 50%, adhering to the timeline proposed to the Board of Education. Because of the budget optimization efforts across the University and enrollments that continue to climb, Moody’s Investor Services Ratings has most recently affirmed our A1 issuer and revenue bond rating status. They also confirmed our budgetary outlook, saying ISU’s outlook shows “lots of stability; and a strong and improving financial position.”
