CoSE Reorganization Implementation Follow-up Feb. 19


The College's Reorganization Implementation Follow-Up meeting with the Provost will be held on Thursday, February 19, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., in the Rendezvous ABC Suites and via Zoom.

It was all things STEM at the Pond Student Union Building!


Thursday, we welcomed more than 450 middle and high school students and their teachers to our annual Bengal STEM Day. The event was packed with hands-on workshops and interactive demos led by our incredible faculty, students, and local STEM professionals.


A huge THANK YOU to the dozens of volunteers who make Bengal STEM Day possible each year. Your time, energy, and passion are helping inspire the next generation of scientists, engineers, and innovators!

ISU Professor Honored by Kiwanis Club of Pocatello

An Idaho State University professor is being recognized for his efforts to bring the wonders of STEM to local youth.


Recently, Steve Shropshire, professor of physics, was named Kiwanian of the Year by the Kiwanis Club of Pocatello. The award honors a member of the club who best exemplifies the group’s motto of “Serving the Children of the World.”

Faculty Research Fellow Opportunity with Office for Research


The Office for Research is conducting an internal search for a faculty member to serve as a Faculty Research Fellow. We welcome applicants with research experience, expertise, or interest in the health and/or biomedical sciences, and interest in learning about working in research in an administrative capacity.

This position is open to full-time faculty at ISU at the clinical assistant or tenure-track assistant-level or higher. Applicants should have research experience, expertise, or interest in the health and/or biomedical sciences.

Interested faculty are encouraged to apply and may reach out to Michele Brumley with any questions. Review of applications will begin on April 6.

Research Highlight: How Lack of Sleep Affects Brain Function and Health


In this new series, students discuss physiological topics related to well-known conditions and diseases in simple words that everyone can understand. In this edition, student researcher Kennedy Koopman presents research on the human body and its need for sleep to function properly in How Lack of Sleep Affects Brain Function and Health.

New Faculty Development Program to Enhance Institutional Research Capacity


Idaho State University has announced the launch of Aligning Stakeholders and Structures to Enable Research Transformation (ASSERT), a new faculty development program designed to increase institutional research capacity. This initiative aims to cultivate a community of scholars by supporting faculty as they work to overcome structural, cultural, and personal barriers to conducting transformative research.


The program is a collaborative effort between Academic Affairs and the Office for Research. Funded by the NSF-EPSCoR ICREWS grant, ASSERT represents a strategic investment in the long-term research vitality of Idaho State University. The initiative advances the objectives of the state EPSCoR program by supporting faculty development and encouraging regional alignment through coordinated efforts with Boise State University and the University of Idaho.

Abstracts for Research and Creative Works Symposium Due Feb. 25


Abstract submissions for the 2026 Research Symposium are now open, with a deadline of February 25 at noon.


This event is a great opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students of all disciplines to present their scholarly or creative works, in progress or completed, in a conference-style event. Top presentations will win cash prizes in oral presentation, poster presentation, and creative works categories. In-person and online oral and poster presentation options are available. 


To learn more about what to expect when presenting at a research symposium, as well as best practices, students can attend several Insider Sessions. 

Dean's Excellence Fund Accepting Requests from Students


The College of Science and Engineering Dean's Excellence Fund is intended to support students in their journey through ISU. The Dean's Office is particularly interested in providing financial assistance to students who might not be able to enroll in or complete the semester because of short-term financial hardships. Students seeking such support should be in good academic standing.


If you know of a student who is in need of short-term support, please have them complete this form.

University Budget Process Update

Last fall, ISU began a multi-month listening phase where all employees were asked to provide input on current and upcoming budget challenges through interactive listening sessions and a feedback survey. "I am proud of the unprecedented number of members of the University community engaged in this process, offering thoughtful and constructive feedback that reflects our shared commitment to inclusivity, transparency, and engagement," said President Robert Wagner.

Donate Extra Clothing or Household Items to the Campus Thrift Store

The Office of Sustainability is excited to announce the launch of ISU's first-ever pop-up thrift store this April. To help make this initiative a success, we invite faculty, staff, and students to donate gently used items that are no longer needed. Accepted donations include clothing, accessories, shoes, stationery, small household items (such as kitchenware and bedding), and office supplies.


Donation drop-off will be available at the Pond Student Union Building starting February 23, and continuing every Monday from noon to 2 p.m. 

A New Space for Reflection: ISU Celebrates Student Meditation and Reflection Room

Idaho State University and the Idaho State University Foundation are pleased to announce the new Student Meditation and Reflection Room on the Pocatello campus.


Opening February 24, the new Student Meditation and Reflection Room will provide a quiet, inclusive space for members of the campus community—regardless of faith or spiritual beliefs—to pray, reflect, and meditate.


Join us for the Student Mediation and Reflection Room Unveiling event on Tuesday, February 24, at 4 p.m. in the Rendezvous Building, Room 212.

Idaho Statewide 3MT® Competition Feb 17

All are invited to join in cheering on the four graduate students from Idaho State University competing in the Statewide Three Minute Thesis Competition on February 17. The event takes place in Coeur d'Alene, ID and is available for viewing via Zoom. 


Four graduate students from each of Idaho’s public research universities — University of Idaho, Boise State University and Idaho State University — compete annually in the 3MT® statewide competition and present their research in just three minutes or less, with only one slide.

Save the Date; ISU Powwow April 3 and 4

Idaho State University invites the campus and surrounding community to the 2026 ISU Powwow on Friday, April 3 and Saturday, April 4 at Reed Gym. This free, family-friendly event celebrates Indigenous culture through traditional song, dance, drumming, regalia, and community gathering.

Humanities Café Presents "Art in Motion: Music, Identity, and Resistance in the Americas"

The next Humanities Café, Art in Motion: Music, Identity, and Resistance in the Americas, will be held Thursday, February 19 from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Union Taproom.


This event brings together ISU faculty for an evening of conversation exploring how music and art shape identity, community, and shared experience across the Americas.
