IASE Annual Meeting and Symposium Slated for April 5 and 6
The 2024 Annual Meeting and Symposium of the Idaho Academy of Science and Engineering is being held jointly between the IASE and the Intermountain Conference on the Environment on ISU's Pocatello campus on April 5 and 6.
The theme of the Symposium is Sustainability and the Earth's Climate.
Students, faculty, staff, and community members are all encouraged to participate and attend.

5 Seats Available at CoSE's An Opportuni-Tea Table
CoSE is sponsoring a table at the 14th Annual An Opportuni-Tea fundraiser for the University Honors Program on Saturday, April 6, from noon to 2:30 p.m. at the ICCU Bengal Alumni Center.
Currently, we have 5 seats available on a first-come, first-served basis. If you are interested in attending, email Logan McDougall at loganmcdougall@isu.edu and include if you will be bringing a guest.
Funds raised at An Opportuni-Tea support student scholarships, research, additional UHP programming, seminars, and courses.

INL Launches Experts Database
Researchers now have a new tool to connect with experts at Idaho National Laboratory.
INL is pleased to announce the launch of INL Experts, a public, searchable database designed to expand collaborations with INL researchers and enhance the visibility of their research. This tool can inspire discovery and innovation by connecting researchers within the laboratory, across disciplines, nationally and internationally.

Applications Sought for Institutional Biosafety Committee Chair
The position of chair of the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) is open for applications.
The term of the chair is for at least one year, and they may be reappointed. Although the IBC does not currently meet in the summer, the chair must be available for IBC-related business during the summer months. Compensation will be determined in consultation with the Office for Research and the individual's department chair and college dean, in an effort to meet the needs of the position and balance workload. The IBC Chair has the responsibility for overseeing the coordination and implementation of effective, efficient systems for biosafety protocol review by the IBC, in compliance with the Center for Disease Control (CDC) Biosafety in Microbiological and Biomedical Laboratories (BMBL) advisory document and the National Institutes for Health (NIH) Guidelines for Research Involving Recombinant or Synthetic Nucleic Acid Molecules.

Proposals Sought for Office for Research's Faculty Seed Grant Program
The ISU Office for Research Faculty Seed Grant Program is intended to encourage new junior-level faculty and existing faculty who are refocusing their research programs to develop research, scholarly, or creative programs that provide the potential extramural funding and long-term professional development. Successful proposals will provide data to support proposals for external funding. Proposals will be accepted from all eligible faculty across all colleges and departments.

Advanced Manufacturing for Extreme Environments Workshop March 26 and 27
The Center for Advanced Energy Studies' Advanced Manufacturing for Extreme Environments Workshop aims to build a community of advanced manufacturing researchers to address grand challenges in advanced manufacturing for extreme environments.
The goal is to connect CAES researchers with industry and government researchers to enhance collaborations in advanced manufacturing (AM). Attendees will learn about AM research capabilities across CAES, government labs, and industry to identify subareas of AM for collaboration. Additionally, gaps in CAES infrastructure will be identified to prioritize major instrumentation procurement strategies.
The workshop will take place in Idaho Falls on March 26 and 27.

Google Storage Limit Changes and Action Steps for Faculty and Staff
Due to changes in Google's approach to digital data storage associated with education subscriptions, it has become necessary for ISU to implement updated data storage limits. Specifically, Google will no longer provide unlimited data storage as part of their education service agreements without universities incurring substantial costs. Meaning that our costs will continue to rise as our storage usage increases.
As a result, every Google account at ISU will be subject to new data limits for electronic storage space. This includes Gmail, Google Photos, and Google Drive, along with some Google Workspace applications. The new Google storage limits will vary depending on your role at ISU. Every account holder or manager will need to consider options for transferring or deleting files if they are over their data limit. Resources such as IT support, information forums, and ISU’s Google Storage Limits webpage are available to assist with this process.

Applications Sought for Idaho Science and Technology Fellowship
Candidates are being sought for this coming year's Idaho Science and Technology Policy Fellowship.
ISTPF is a nonpartisan program that places terminal degree-holders in the sciences, social sciences, and engineering in year-long funded fellowships in Idaho state government. ISU has partnered with BSU and UI for five years on this important initiative, and we would like to place a Bengal as a fellow this coming year. This program is a rare opportunity to strengthen the connection between policy and academic research, while giving researchers a unique opportunity for professional development. The 2024-2025 applications close on March 29. Dr. Sarah Robey is ISU's representative on the ISTPF leadership team. DOE Seeks Applicants for Graduate Student Research Program
The Department of Energy's Office of Science has announced that its Graduate Student Research program is accepting applications for the 2024 Solicitation 1.
The program supports supplemental awards for outstanding U.S. graduate students to conduct part of their graduate thesis research at a DOE national laboratory or facility in collaboration with a DOE laboratory scientist for three to 12 consecutive months. The goal is to prepare graduate students for scientific and technical careers critically important to DOE's mission.
Applications are due by 5 p.m. ET on Wednesday, May 1.

The system is used when you sign into any ISU system that requires your username and password. The biggest change you’ll notice will be an updated, cleaner look for the Secure Sign-On page. The Duo authentication process is slightly different as well.

Staff Council Seeking New Members
Staff Council is soliciting nominations for ISU staff members from all campuses who would like to be on the ballot for the April 2024 election. We have three vacancies for classified staff and five vacancies for non-classified staff. Representatives are elected to a three-year term beginning in May 2024 and ending in May 2027.

Idaho’s Annual Statewide Mandatory Cybersecurity Awareness Training
In our uber-connected world, cybercriminals and malicious links creep around every corner. Stories of ransomware attacks and data breaches costing millions of dollars fill our news feeds constantly. We get it; it can be overwhelming. With so much information bombarding us, it can be hard to know the safest response. Cybersecurity training is critical in helping us stay on top of best practices to keep our information secure.
2024 ISU Annual Cybersecurity Mandatory Training is expected to take 18 minutes to complete and does not have to be done in one sitting. Training is due March 31.

You are always welcome to create a draft story, submit it via the Story Submission Form, or send it to Logan. The Office of Marketing and Communications and Logan will coordinate to get the story finalized and distributed to the media outlets/platforms that best tell the story.
