Patric Rault

Kudos to Patrick Rault, professor and chair of the mathematics and statistics department, on publishing a chapter in the book Faculty Learning Communities: Communities of Practice that Support, Inspire, Engage and Transform Higher Education Classrooms!

The book focuses on how these communities can impact teaching practices and student learning, facilitate institutional change, and more. In his chapter, Rault and his co-authors detail their work on the Communities for Mathematics Inquiry in Teaching Network, a nationwide professional development group of more than 1,000 mathematics faculty that he started over ten years ago.

Local News 8’s Noah Farley stopped by the Structural Laboratory for a visit with Mustafa Mashal, professor of civil engineering, about how researchers are looking into new ways of making buildings more resilient to earthquakes.

Applications Sought for I-CREWS Seed Funding Program

I-CREWS Seed Funding allows the program to respond to new opportunities and/or pursue high-risk, high-impact research projects. Two sizes of awards (small and large) are divided into two categories, all directly related to Energy-Water challenges. One category is Convergence Research and Education, open to any qualifying team or research partnership in Idaho. This category includes projects driven by a compelling problem that demonstrates integration across disciplines (nonacademic collaboration is optional). The other category focuses on community-engaged collaboration to support co-produced research and education outcomes with communities (including Tribal representatives) through integration and co-production using local knowledge.

The U.S. Department of Energy is hosting a virtual information session on Thursday, November 21, from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. to showcase the exciting federal and non-federal careers, internships, and fellowships they have available in a variety of fields, such as science, technology, engineering, national security, international affairs, and business.

The U.S. Department of Energy Office of Technology Transitions has launched the fourth round of the EnergyTech University Prize. This $545,000 prize comprises two tracks, a Student Track and a Faculty Track, both with a common goal—accelerating the cleantech industry. With prize opportunities provided from an array of DOE offices, the competition aims to cultivate the next generation of energy innovators, educators, and entrepreneurs.

Dean's Excellence Fund Accepting Requests from Students

The College of Science and Engineering Dean's Excellence Fund is intended to support students in their journey through ISU. The Dean's Office is particularly interested in providing financial assistance to students who might not be able to enroll in or complete the semester because of short-term financial hardships. Students seeking such support should be in good academic standing.

If you know of a student who is in need of short-term support, please have them complete this form.

Help Us Share Your Accomplishments!

Our College’s outstanding faculty, staff, and students achieve many notable research and professional accomplishments. In addition, our departments regularly have newsworthy advancements. We want to make sure those stories are shared publicly. Here are a few ways you can provide a news tip to help get the word out:

Use this Story Submission Form to send your news tip to the Office of Marketing and Communications.

Send an email to Logan McDougall (loganmcdougall@isu.edu) with a brief description of the news to be shared.

You are always welcome to create a draft story, submit it via the Story Submission Form, or send it to Logan. The Office of Marketing and Communications and Logan will coordinate to get the story finalized and distributed to the media outlets/platforms that best tell the story.
