Oct. 23 CoSE Flu Shot Clinic Start Time Changed to 9 a.m., Oct. 31 Clinic Unaffected
College of Pharmacy students will administer flu shots to CoSE faculty and staff Monday, October 23, from 9 a.m. to noon in the Gale Life Sciences Building Room 229 and Tuesday, October 31, from 10 a.m. to noon in the Physical Science Complex Room 121.
Faculty and staff interested in receiving their flu shot must complete a registration form at least three hours before the clinic to receive their shot.
Flu shots are also available at the University Health Center. No appointment is necessary, and call (208) 282-2330 for more information.

The ISU Chem Club is hosting its annual demo shows on Friday and Saturday.
The Friday (October 20) show is for ISU students and gets underway at 6:30 p.m. Meanwhile, the community and kids of all ages are invited to the Saturday (October 21) show at 1 p.m.
Both shows will be held in Room 140 of the Physical Science Building.

Internal Small Grant Program Seeking Submissions
The Internal Small Grant Program (ISGP) aims to expand the capacity for research and creative activity at ISU. The Office for Research (OR) makes funding available for this program and relies on the ISU Research Council (RC) to make recommendations to the Vice President for Research in as fair and as transparent a way as possible and supports all areas, types, and disciplines of research and creative activity by all full-time ISU faculty. Funding for ISGP comes from Facilities and Administrative (F&A) Costs resulting from external grant and contract funding.
Proposals are due November 1.

FY2025 Idaho Global Entrepreneurial Mission (IGEM) Initiative Pre-Proposals Sought
Funding under this program will be awarded for competitive state university research in support of the goals of the IGEM initiative. These funds are to be used as seed funding for strengthening Idaho’s future by strategically investing in the development of expertise, products, and services which result in economic growth.
Pre-proposals are due October 30 by 6 p.m. Mountain Time. Pre-proposals selected to advance to the Full Proposal stage will be notified no later than January 10, 2024. Full Proposals will be due March 15, 2024, by 6 p.m. Mountain Time.

Idaho State University Students Deliver 86,000 Menstrual Pads Throughout the Community
ASISU marked Period Action Day by distributing a generous donation of 86,500 menstrual pads, equivalent to 173 boxes, within our local communities.
Period Action Day is aimed to support the fight against period poverty, a cause that unites voices across the menstrual movement every second Saturday in October. This endeavor also ties into ASISU’s ongoing effort to assess the need for menstrual products on our campus and explore opportunities to enhance our support in campus restrooms. A team of 24 volunteers contributed to this distribution effort across ISU's campuses, eight public schools in the school district, and seven local non-profit organizations.

Office for Research, Higher Education Council Undergraduate Research Grants Deadline Extended
The deadline from the Office for Research for HERC proposals has been extended to November 1.
The funds will be awarded to six labs or research projects, with the selection based on proposals. A maximum of $8,000 will be awarded to a single lab (or project) for the academic year. Please visit the Office for Research Undergraduate Research site for the application, or use the provided link.

Blind Awareness Month: Courtesy as a Rule
October is Blind Awareness Month and Idaho State University Disability Services is celebrating it by offering some tips on interacting appropriately with students, faculty, or Pocatello residents who are blind or visually impaired.
The Idaho Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired has created some videos on Orientation and Mobility, including one on Human Guide Techniques, that offer suggestions about how to be an effective guide. The main points include:
- Ask first
- Try to communicate in a respectful manner
- Think of the perspective of the blind or visually impaired person.

U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano to Host Webinar at Idaho State University
Janet Napolitano, who was the United States Secretary of Homeland Security from 2009-2013, will be Idaho State University's special guest as part of a webinar series titled Leadership Insights.
Everyone is invited to join Secretary Napolitano as she presents to students in the Homeland Security and Emergency Management program on the topic of “Homeland Security Apparatus” on November 2 at 5:15 p.m.

Psychology Graduate Student Association Winter Coat Drive Underway
Idaho State University's Psychology Graduate Student Association is collecting new and gently used winter gear to donate to Pocatello School District #25. Donations can be dropped off at Reed Gym, Business Administration Building Room 248, or Garrison Hall Room 427.

Community for Survivors of Suicide
The Community for Survivors of Suicide Loss is a monthly support group that is open to any student, faculty, or staff member who would like to connect with others who have suffered the loss of a loved one to suicide. This group meets on the 2nd Monday of each month from 4 to 5 p.m.
