Congrats to CoSE students Ryan Bartel, Arifa Champa, and Isaac Turner on being named runners-up in the Idaho State University Career Center's Student Employee of the Year competition!
| | | |
Dan Dale, physics professor, and his students hosted their collaborators from New Mexico Tech for a few days of making isotopes at the Idaho Accelerator Center recently.
The group created isotopes for the elements tin, samarium, promethium, and more. Their work will help develop isotopes for cancer treatments and nuclear medicine applications.

Kudos to Bektur Akkabakov and Gary Bumgardner!
The poster that the two math and stats students are holding earned them a Best Poster Award at the Pacific Inland Mathematics Undergraduate Conference hosted at Eastern Oregon University.
Working with Professor Yury Gryazin, Bektur and Gary are using a combination of math, physics, and computer science to find objects buried underground, such as landmines or buried pipes, without digging a hole.
After a wave–like sound or radar waves–is sent into the ground, how it travels through the earth can reveal what’s hidden in the dirt. Using a special equation–called the Helmholtz equation–they can predict how the waves will travel, and using machine learning, they’re able to turn the noisy wave data into a picture of what’s below, and faster compared to older techniques.

The 2025 Research Roundup was a success!
Last Friday, the biological sciences department gathered in the Gale Life Sciences building, where over 100 ISU students presented their research with more than 50 posters.

|
The College of Science and Engineering Dean's Excellence Fund is intended to support students in their journey through ISU. The Dean's Office is particularly interested in providing financial assistance to students who might not be able to enroll in or complete the semester because of short-term financial hardships. Students seeking such support should be in good academic standing.
If you know of a student who is in need of short-term support, please have them complete this form.

Volunteers Still Needed for 2 p.m. Commencement Ceremony
We are in need of a few more volunteers for the afternoon ceremony. We have had an outstanding response for the morning ceremony. Thank you to everyone who has signed up.
Pocatello’s commencement ceremonies are Saturday, May 10 in the ICCU Dome.
Because this is such a large-scale event, we need many volunteers to help make the day run smoothly for our graduates and their guests. Volunteer roles will include ushers, college line-up and processional support, directional guides, and more.
