Thanks, Zanskar Geothermal!

Recently, the company donated all the equipment necessary to perform two-meter temperature surveys to the Department of Geosciences. The donated equipment includes the necessary rods, thermometers, generators, and more for geologists to measure the temperature of the Earth two meters below the surface. The surveys are a quick, portable way to identify geothermal systems, fault zones, and more.

The equipment will be put to immediate use this summer during Field Camp at the Lost River Field Station. From there, it’ll help to expand the department's research and exploration capabilities.

Amit Koirala, a master’s student in civil engineering, recently returned from the Structural Engineering Institute’s Embodied Carbon Boot Camp in Cincinnati, Ohio.

As one of four students to receive a scholarship to attend the boot camp, Amit learned how structural engineers can design buildings that are better for the environment and how to measure and reduce carbon emissions from building materials using specialized tools and guidelines.

Dean's Excellence Fund Accepting Requests from Students

The College of Science and Engineering Dean's Excellence Fund is intended to support students in their journey through ISU. The Dean's Office is particularly interested in providing financial assistance to students who might not be able to enroll in or complete the semester because of short-term financial hardships. Students seeking such support should be in good academic standing.

If you know of a student who is in need of short-term support, please have them complete this form.

Update to State Travel Policy: Reimbursements Must be Submitted Within 90 Days of Travel

The Idaho State Board of Examiners recently approved changes to the State Travel Policy that take effect on July 1. Because state policy supersedes University policy, ISU must follow these new requirements.

Effective July 1, travel expenses submitted more than 90 calendar days after travel is completed will not be reimbursed unless exceptional circumstances exist and written approval is granted. Travelers are encouraged to submit expense reports and reconcile travel card transactions as soon as possible following travel.
