Every winter, Idaho's bridges face a relentless assault. Freeze-and-thaw cycles crack concrete, and deicing salts corrode steel. Beneath the surface, water and chemicals quietly eat away at the reinforcement holding it all together. Now, ISU researchers are leading a team that’s working to find a way to fend off the worst of what humans and Mother Nature can throw at these structures.

Faculty and Staff Service Project Scheduled for Sept. 18

This year, Staff Council and Faculty Senate are teaming up to get out of the office, roll up our sleeves, and give back to the city that supports us. We’re organizing a joint service project at Mountain View Cemetery, and we’d love for you to join us.

Friday, September 18, from 3 to 5:30 p.m., we will meet at Brady Chapel. Bring some gloves and get ready to work hard as we help clean up our community.

The project is open to all faculty and staff, and tools and light refreshments will be provided.

ISU to Host Idaho History Conference

The Department of History is hosting the first-ever conference of a new Idaho history organization, the Consortium of Historians of Idaho and its Periphery (CHIP). CHIP is the only organization in the country dedicated to the history of Idaho and its connections to the broader Intermountain West region.

CHIP invites the ISU community to join us as historians from all over the state share their recent research on September 19. Presentations will cover over 150 years of Idaho history, focus on both famous Idahoans and lesser-known voices, and explore a variety of themes, including politics, religion, science, and recreation.

Request for Proposals: 2026-2027 Cultural Events Committee Grants

The Cultural Events Committee (CEC) invites all ISU faculty members to submit an application for funding to serve any ISU community.

The purpose of the Cultural Events Committee is to bring together the University and surrounding communities through cultural events. The committee understands “cultural event” to mean any event that celebrates human creativity or human experience from the perspectives of the arts, the humanities, or those aspects of the social sciences, the sciences, and technology which have artistic or humanistic content and employ artistic or humanistic methods.

Dean's Excellence Fund Accepting Requests from Students

The College of Science and Engineering Dean's Excellence Fund is intended to support students in their journey through ISU. The Dean's Office is particularly interested in providing financial assistance to students who might not be able to enroll in or complete the semester because of short-term financial hardships. Students seeking such support should be in good academic standing.

If you know of a student who is in need of short-term support, please have them complete this form.

September 25: Last day to WITHDRAW from early 8-week courses

October 5: Early 8-week course grading opens

October 12: Mid-term week

October 12: Spring 2027 Class Schedule viewable online (subject to change)

October 19: Late 8-week courses begin

October 20: Early 8-week course grading closes at 5:00 pm

October 23: Last day to add/drop late 8-week courses

October 30: Last day to WITHDRAW from full-semester courses
