Our inaugural group of SPARK a FIRE scholars met for the first time on Monday.
Through the program, transfer students looking to earn a bachelor’s degree in biology, microbiology, biochemistry, or chemistry are eligible for up to $10,000 in scholarship funding and have access to tools and resources specifically tailored for the transfer student experience.
The SPARK a FIRE program is funded by a grant from the National Science Foundation (DUE 2220844).

CoSE and the Office for Research are looking for a Senior Accountant.
The Senior Accountant will provide accounting and financial support to the College of Science and Engineering and to the Office for Research, and assist the University Business Officer for these units in monitoring and controlling budget status for appropriated, local and grant funds. This position will analyze financial transaction data, research and resolve variances, prepare management reports, and will provide direct support as needed to account directors.

CoSE Fall Forum and Social Set for Sept. 28
Join us for CoSE’s Fall Forum on Thursday, September 28, at 3 p.m. in Lecture Center Room 10. The Lecture Center is Building #67, near the Gale Life Sciences Building and north of the Speech Pathology and Audiology Building.
A social hour for faculty and staff will be held at Goody's Deli, 905 S 5th Ave., after the meeting. Pizza and refreshments will be provided.

Students Needed for Bannock Development Corp. Focus Group
Bannock Development Corporation is looking for CoSE students to participate in a focus group that will ask questions relevant to their experiences as college students, their needs in the workforce, and for their livelihood.
This focus group is student-led, and all student responses will remain anonymous to protect student identities.
The group will meet Wednesday, September 13, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. via Google Meets.
Bannock Development Corporation is a nonprofit private/public corporation that focuses on economic development for the Portneuf Valley.

Notice of Fall Fire Evacuation Drills
The ISU campuses in Pocatello and Idaho Falls will practice a fire evacuation drill between the dates of August 28 and September 8. The evacuation schedule and instructions are available on Public Safety's website.
In an effort to simplify the process and be more student-centric, we have updated the locations of Areas of Assembly across campus and created an online map for Meridian, Idaho Falls, and Pocatello to utilize.

New Academic Integrity Council
ISU faculty have heard a lot about chatbots in the last year. Should you allow your students to use them to complete their course assignments? How would you even know if students are drawing upon generative AI tools such as ChatGPT, Bard, and Bing?
One of the most important predictors for ensuring student integrity is for faculty to have clear academic standards and policies for a course, and the newly formed Academic Integrity Council may be able to assist you.

Call for proposals: Cultural Events Committee
The Cultural Events Committee invites all ISU faculty members to submit a funding application for cultural events that serve any ISU community.
The committee understands “cultural event” to mean any event that celebrates human creativity or human experience, with particular attention to human diversity and its relevance, from the perspectives of the arts, the humanities, or those aspects of the social sciences, the sciences, and technology which have artistic or humanistic content and employ artistic or humanistic methods.

A Living Canvas: ISU Welcomes Visiting Artist Brian Collier's Ecological Exhibit
A patch of lawn at ISU is being un-lawned to welcome native plants and pollinators.
On the Pocatello Idaho State University campus, a small fenced-off patch of lawn by the Fine Arts building has been left unmowed.
This is part of a project hosted by ISU Department of Art and artist Brian D. Collier, Professor of Art & Design at Saint Michael's College, Vermont.

First to ROAR Event Set Aug. 28
The Access and Opportunity Programs at Idaho State University are hosting First to ROAR, a gathering for first-generation students, Monday, August 28, from noon to 1 p.m. in the Wood River Room, Pond Student Union, Pocatello campus.
This event will bring together first-generation students, faculty, and staff to showcase resources available on campus. The first 40 students will receive free lunch sponsored by ICCU and Lookout Credit Union. Students will also be able to add a sticker to their water bottle and learn about valuable resources.

ISU Researchers Looking for Older Adults For Study
The META and Aging Lab at Idaho State University is conducting a research study that is investigating the health benefits associated with listening/singing to music and exercise. The researchers are interested in studying healthy older adults between the ages of 60 to 90.
Participants will be entered into a drawing for a $50 gift card.

Send an email to Logan McDougall (loganmcdougall@isu.edu) with a brief description of the news to be shared.
You are always welcome to create a draft story, submit it via the Story Submission Form, or send it to Logan. The Office of Marketing and Communications and Logan will coordinate to get the story finalized and distributed to the media outlets/platforms that best tell the story.
