Mathematics and Statistics Faculty to Present at March 5 PIE Workshop
Mathematics and Statistics faculty members Randa Kress, Derek Eckman, Jason Reed, and Patrick Rault will present "Beyond Grades: Exploring Competency-Based Assessment in Mathematics" as part of the Program for Instructional Effectiveness (PIE) series of workshops and forums.
Their presentation will focus on the department's efforts over the last three semesters to implement a standards-based grading system for their coordinated college algebra course. Standards-based grading is an alternative grading system in which some portion of students' grades are determined by their ability to meet broadly worded learning statements (i.e., standards) related to course content.
The workshop will be held Wednesday, March 5, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the PSUB Shirley Sargent Family Boardroom.

Office for Research Seeks Input
Each year, ISU Administration seeks faculty-generated ideas for ISU's Community Project Funding request to Idaho's Congressman Mike Simpson. This year, the request schedule has been altered. And, given current Administration budget process concerns, the FFY2026 request process may not happen at all; the future of this process is not clear.
Just in case the FFY2026 process unfolds favorably, the ISU Office for Research is seeking suggestions from faculty using the Faculty Research & Program Interest form and requests submissions from you. If you have any questions, please contact research@isu.edu.
