One in 20 Programmers on Open-Source Software Projects are Women, Says Idaho State University Study
Every day, millions of updates are being made to open-source software projects by programmers across the globe. A new analysis by computer scientists at Idaho State University has found that only a handful of those changes are being made by women.

Reminder: The Water Rocket Festival is this weekend at Tydeman Park!
Saturday and Sunday, from 10 a.m. to noon, the first 100 youths ages 16-years-old and younger will receive the materials needed to construct a water rocket. From there, ISU students will explain the physics of making a good rocket and help the newly-minted water rocket scientists build and launch their handmade projectiles. The builder whose rocket travels the furthest will win their own water rocket launcher.

The pair of ISU employees were honored along with the other recipients at an awards ceremony in Boise last week.

Field Research Photo/Video Opportunities Wanted
John and Jordon in Photo and Video Services are looking for opportunities to shoot photos/videos of faculty and students out in the field this summer conducting their research.
If you or your students are out in the field over the summer months, please add it to the Google Sheet. Including an item on the spreadsheet does not guarantee that photos or videos will be shot. John and Jordon will attend as their schedule allows.

CoSE Camping Trip Aug. 25 - 27
You are invited to join us for a camping trip at Grand Teton National Park from Friday, August 25 to Sunday, August 27. The weekend will be a great opportunity to relax and enjoy the outdoors with your colleagues and families.
The trip is open to all CoSE faculty and staff, as well as their families. We will be staying at Colter Bay Group Camping Sites 4 and 5, which can accommodate up to 70 people and 23 cars. You will be responsible for providing your own food and other camping gear.
Please RSVP by August 1 via the Google Form. Space is limited, so RSVP early. Please check out Grand Teton National Park website for more information.

Changes in Cell Phone Procedures
To align with modern best practices in higher education, and to ensure we are operating efficiently, the University is moving forward with a new Mobile Communications Devices Policy related to the issuance of cell phones used for university business.
This new policy has completed the required 30-day review period and is scheduled to be effective January 1, 2024.

Setting Sail with Moodle Workshop Starts July 10
Setting Sail with Moodle is an online, asynchronous workshop designed to show you the foundations of Moodle ISU. This introductory workshop follows an asynchronous structure, allowing you the flexibility to work at your own pace. Setting Sail with Moodle, offered through the Instructional Technology Resource Center (ITRC), is scheduled to open July 10th and is completely free to ISU faculty and staff.

Murder, Mystery, and ISU Anthropology featured in new TV Series
Samantha Blatt, associate professor of anthropology, stars in an episode of the new show, Unearthed: Ancient Murder Mysteries, on Curiosity Stream and available through Amazon Prime. The episode entitled, "The Idaho Torso," tells the tale of identifying the victim of a murder, Joseph Henry Loveless, over 100 years ago from bones and genes, when a headless torso was discovered in an East Idaho cave.

Open house times for the new Idaho Central Credit Union Bengal Alumni Center are scheduled for Tuesday, June 27, and Wednesday July 26.
