Mohamed Ismail receives his Best Paper Award

Kudos to graduate students Mohamed Ismail and Rhana Elsayed, and Associate Professor Mostafa Fouda, for earning a Best Paper Award at the IEEE Conference on Secure and Trustworthy CyberInfrastructure for IoT and Microelectronics in Houston!

Their research focuses on improving wireless communication in future 6G networks using intelligent reflecting surfaces (IRS). IRS systems are smart surfaces with programmable elements that can control how wireless signals are reflected. The group developed an AI-based model that learns users' movement and automatically adjusts the signal to make it stronger and more reliable. At the same time, the system reduces the risk of signals being intercepted by unintended listeners. Overall, their work will help make 6G networks faster, more efficient, and more secure.

Great job, Bree Gilbert!

Bree, a financial technician, was named one of March's Be A Bengal Nominees for embodying Integrity, Inclusivity, Shared Responsibility, Community, Learning, and Teamwork.

Since 2019, the 'Be a Bengal' Program has celebrated employees who embody ISU's six core values: Teamwork, Integrity, Inclusivity, Community, Learning, and Shared Responsibility. In 2025, the program expanded to recognize contributions in any or all of these values, reinforcing their importance in our Strategic Plan.

Amit Koirala poses for a photo in ISU’s Structural Lab.

Congrats, Amit Koirala!

Amit, a master’s student in civil engineering, was recently awarded a scholarship to attend the American Society of Civil Engineers' Structural Engineering Institute's Structures Congress in Boston. He’ll be attending the three-day conference with fellow Bengals Arpan Adhikari and Prajita Budhathoki.

Thanks to everyone who joined us Bowling Night!

RFPs Sought For Proposal Assistance Toward High-impact Funding Award

The Proposal Assistance Toward High-impact funding (PATH) Award is a new internal grant designed to support principal investigators on a trajectory to submit external large-scale funding proposals of at least $1 million.

PIs are expected to develop projects that will address priority topics for ISU (health, energy, environmental stewardship and security, and community connection), have the strong potential to build research capacity and promote collaboration, and drive innovation and impact. All projects will be considered, including projects conducting or developing research, instruction, program development, outreach, service, workforce development, etc.

The first PATH deadline is May 1. If you have questions, reach out to Michele Brumley. For application submission, applicants must work with Steve Wright in the Office of Sponsored Programs and Support to submit and route proposals through Cayuse.

The Great Admissions Redesign: Simplifying the Admissions and Transfer Process Across ISU, CEI, and CSI

Idaho State University, the College of Southern Idaho, and the College of Eastern Idaho have been awarded a $450,000 grant through Lumina Foundation’s Great Admissions Redesign initiative to create a simpler, more connected path for students working toward a bachelor’s degree.

Under the new model, students will apply once at CSI or CEI and automatically be admitted to ISU. From the beginning, they will see how their courses connect to a four-year degree, understand what comes next, and receive coordinated support across all three institutions.

University Communications and Engagement Survey

The Office of the President and Office of Marketing and Communications are collecting feedback related to internal communications.

Internal communication refers to information sharing that supports employees in doing their job. Internal communications includes email, newsletters, web based platforms, meetings, and other communication methods used by participants within an organization.
