What's Happening in CoSE

CoSE has had quite a presence on KISU recently!


Heather Ray, assistant professor in the biological sciences department, and Nelly Cyuzuza, graduate student, were guests on ISU Research, Innovation, and Creativity Insights hosted by Marty Blair, vice president for research and economic development. On the show, they discussed their work on the genetics of developmental disorders and what "hooked their interest in developmental biology." Meanwhile, CoSE's two Outstanding Student Achievement Award winners, Jaden Palmer and Xavier Christy, stopped by Bengal Tales with Amy Dressel, interim alumni director, for a chat about their time at ISU.

Dakota Clark Named CPI of the Month


Dakota Clark, January's CPI of the Month, is a senior Mechanical Engineering student working as a space planning intern in the ISU Facilities Architecture Department. Clark’s duties involve assisting the University Architect and University Planner with the day-to-day operations of the department, including using AutoCAD 3D modeling software to work on drafting projects and preliminary drawings as well as conducting field studies and surveys of the spaces on campus.

Reminder: Cadre of CoSE Students to Represent ISU at State 3MT Competition on Feb. 11


You're invited to cheer on Md Fazle Rabbi, Arifa Islam Champa, Dallin Stokes, and Callan Norby as they compete in the statewide Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition against students from Boise State University and the University of Idaho.


The event challenges graduate students to summarize their research in three minutes for a general audience and will be held on Tuesday, February 11, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Bennion Student Union Building in Idaho Falls. If you're unable to attend in person, you can view the competion via Zoom (passcode: 149588).

Idaho Science and Technology Policy Fellowship Announces Call for Fellows


The ISTPF is thrilled to announce the sixth call for ISTP fellows. This is an opportunity for outstanding scientists, social scientists and engineers to learn firsthand about policymaking while using their knowledge and skills to address pressing challenges facing Idaho. Portfolios include topics such as water, energy, fire, public health, economic development and more. For more information about the ISTPF and how you can apply, please visit the ISTPF website

Applications are due by Sunday, March 30, and the fellowship year begins in late August 2025.

Volunteers Needed for Bengal STEM Day


We’re looking for volunteers to help with the College’s 2025 installment of Bengal STEM Day on Thursday, February 20, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.


We need volunteers to help with setup prior to the event, take lunch tickets, man the information booth, and serve as roving helpers. Volunteers will receive a Bengal STEM Day shirt and lunch.

Student Abstracts Sought for 2025 Research and Creative Works Symposium


This event is an opportunity for undergrad and graduate students alike of all disciplines and degree levels to present their in-progress or completed scholarly or creative works for a chance to win big bucks!


Abstracts can be submitted starting January 21 with a deadline of February 26.

Dean's Excellence Fund Accepting Requests from Students


The College of Science and Engineering Dean's Excellence Fund is intended to support students in their journey through ISU. The Dean's Office is particularly interested in providing financial assistance to students who might not be able to enroll in or complete the semester because of short-term financial hardships. Students seeking such support should be in good academic standing.


If you know of a student who is in need of short-term support, please have them complete this form.

Canvas Transition Town Hall February 13


On Thursday, February 13 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., Academic Affairs and ITRC will host a Town Hall related to the implementation of Canvas LMS. We will be discussing what you can do now to be ready for Fall 2025 and some of the features of Canvas. Members of the ITRC and Academic Affairs will be present and can answer any questions you may have. We will be recording the Town Hall for those unable to join us.

Join us for ISU Open Education Week, a virtual series of faculty-led presentations and Q&A discussions exploring the impact of Open Educational Resources on teaching and learning at Idaho State University.


From March 3 to 7, faculty will share success stories on adopting, adapting, and creating OER. Learn some insights about how these resources enhance student success, improve instructional flexibility, and support affordability in higher education. More details, including session schedules and registration information, will be announced soon.

ISU, ICOM Sign Research Agreement


Leadership from Idaho State University and Idaho College of Osteopathic Medicine signed an agreement last Friday solidifying and expanding a research partnership between the two institutions. At an event on Idaho State University’s Meridian campus, leaders said they welcomed the chance at further collaboration. 

University Budget Town Hall Set March 13


All are invited to a University Budget Town Hall on Thursday, March 13, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Zoom. Budget outlook, progress towards balancing the budget, and plans for the coming fiscal year will be discussed.

We want to make sure those stories are shared publicly. Here are a few ways you can provide a news tip to help get the word out:

Send an email to Logan McDougall (loganmcdougall@isu.edu) with a brief description of the news to be shared.


You are always welcome to create a draft story, submit it via the Story Submission Form, or send it to Logan. The Office of Marketing and Communications and Logan will coordinate to get the story finalized and distributed to the media outlets/platforms that best tell the story.
