Kiwanis Club of Pocatello Donates $3,000 to ISU Physics Outreach Programs


A local organization is again lending its support to STEM education in the Gem State


Recently, members of the Kiwanis Club of Pocatello presented a $3,000 check to Steve Shropshire, professor of physics at Idaho State University, to help support the physics department’s STEM education efforts.


ISU Dept. of Chemistry to Host Expert in Nanomaterials, Public Invited to Discussion Jan. 25


One of the nation’s leading experts in nanomaterials synthesis is slated to visit Pocatello later this month. 


Idaho State University’s Department of Chemistry will host Jesús M. Velázquez, associate professor at UC Davis, for a cafecito lecture on turning carbon dioxide into methanol on Thursday, January 25, from 6 to 8 p.m. at The College Market, 604 South 8th Avenue.

Save The Date: The NEW Research Symposium Slated for March 13


The Graduate School is excited to announce the ISU Research and Creative Scholarship Symposium for all students in partnership with the Office for Research and the Kasiska Division of Health Sciences (KDHS). 


Various ISU departments have hosted multiple research days over the years, including KDHS Research Day, Undergraduate Research Day, and the Graduate Research Symposium. The symposium will be a single, expansive event covering all undergraduate and graduate academic work. 

Volunteers Needed for Bengal STEM Day


We’re looking for volunteers to help with the College’s 2024 edition of Bengal STEM Day on Thursday, February 22, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.


We need volunteers to help with setup prior to the event, take lunch tickets, man the information booth, and serve as roving helpers. Volunteers will receive a Bengal STEM Day shirt and lunch.

Nominations Now Open for Student Employee of the Year


Student employees are vital to the mission of Idaho State University. We recognize excellence in our student employees each year by awarding the Student Employee of the Year Scholarship ($2,000) and the second-place Lupher Scholarship (approximately $400).


To commemorate National Student Employment Week, the ISU Career Center and Scholarship Office wishes to recognize outstanding student employees who go beyond the job requirements and provide exemplary service to ISU. Please nominate those students you feel meet these high standards by completing the nomination form. Winners will be formally announced in April. Deadline for nominations is January 31, 2024

Are you looking to bring your class out of the classroom? Do you want to tie your course into real-world ongoing research in natural history fields

happening right here on the Idaho State University campus? Look no further than the Idaho Museum of Natural History!


Booking a timeslot at the IMNH for your class is free and helps ensure that your students will have a distraction-free environment during their visit

(K-12 tours may be present with your class during the month of April). It also allows you to work with IMNH curators, collection managers, and staff

to tailor your students' visit to your learning objectives.

ISU Excellence in General Education Teaching Award Nominations Sought


This award recognizes and celebrates general education faculty who engage students with

innovative teaching practices, help non-majors understand and broadly apply disciplinary

methods of inquiry (ways of knowing), and implement strategies to increase access and

affordability to students.


Nominations will be vetted first by the CoSE Dean's Office, then by the ISU GERC committee, and overall recipients of the award in each General Education Objective will be recognized in Spring 2024. Winning nominees for objectives #1-6 will be forwarded for the state GEM Innovative Educator award process, while winners from objectives #7-9 will be recognized by ISU only.

Nominations are due to the Dean's Office by January 26.

Students Sought for Center for Advanced Energy Studies REU 2024 Program


This 10-week program enables 10 undergraduate students from Idaho’s 2-year and 4-year institutions, and universities from across the nation, to work alongside faculty from Boise State University, Idaho State University and the University of Idaho at the Center for Advanced Energy Studies headquarters located near the Idaho National Laboratory Research Campus in Idaho Falls. Students will work on projects related to advanced manufacturing in collaboration with university faculty and scientists from Idaho National Laboratory. 


Applications for the 2024 REU Program opened on December 21.

Idaho State University Symphonic and Civic Bands To Present "Tales of Love" Concert


The Idaho State University Symphonic Band and Civic Bands are proud to announce their first spring concert of the semester. "Tales of Love" will feature beautiful love songs and melodies in honor of Valentine’s Day.


This concert will feature Idaho State Clarinet and Saxophone professor, Dr. Shandra Helman on John Williams’ “Viktor’s Tale.” The program will also include modern band standards like Percy Grainger’s “Irish Tune from County Derry,” and Morten Lauridsen’s transcription of “Contri Que, Rose," along with some newer works by Jake Runestad, Carter Pann, and Ian Mcdougall. 

Submissions Open for "On Common Ground: Diversity Monologues"


The Office of Equity and Inclusion is inviting students to submit applications to present their work at the On Common Ground event, which will be held on Friday, April 26, at 3 p.m. in the Bengal Café.


They are also invited to submit their work for inclusion in an edition of the Diversity Monologues. The presentation/writing prompt is, "Based on influences from your family, friends, cultural upbringing, media, education, social class, and overall life experiences, how do you come to know a sense of belonging at Idaho State University? What factors or experiences tell you that you belong, and what do you do to cultivate your own sense of belonging?"

Idaho State University's School of Performing Arts is proud to announce that their production of "Life X 3" by Yasmina Reza has been chosen as one of the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival's regional finalists for this year.

Janet Napolitano, former United States Secretary of Homeland Security, will present a webinar titled "Homeland Security Apparatus" on Wednesday, January 24, at 6 p.m. via Zoom.

Over $100,000 Raised During 2023 Festival of Trees


Thanks to presenting sponsor Lookout Credit Union, as well as all of the other sponsors, donors and event attendees, the College of Business was able to increase the donation amount given to all of the benefiting organizations.


The United Way of Southeastern Idaho and Alzheimer’s Association of Greater Idaho both received $25,000. The School District 25 Education Foundation received $18,000, and Make-a-Wish Idaho received $12,000 - both a 20% increase from the 2022 festival donation. Additionally, $25,000 was also added to the College of Business Festival of Trees Scholarship fund, which allows for the scholarship to become permanently endowed.
