Going digital: Idaho students, engineers demonstrate first nuclear reactor digital twin

Idaho National Laboratory researchers and Idaho State University nuclear engineering students developed the world’s first nuclear reactor digital twin — a virtual replica of ISU’s AGN-201 reactor — in a campus collaboration last August.

Last week, we had a four-legged friend of the robotic variety on campus!

The Disaster Response Complex hosted researchers from across Idaho State University, the Center for Advanced Energy Studies, and Idaho National Laboratory to discuss how they can collaborate on using mobile robots in various energy and security applications. The INL team even brought their robot dog, SPOT, and took it for a walk through the DRC’s indoor and outdoor facilities.

Recently, ISU alum and current University of Delaware doctoral student Robert “Robbie” Spiers won the 2023 Stewardship Science Graduate Fellowship with the Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration.

He is the first UD graduate student to win the fellowship which "aims to provide professional development opportunities to students pursuing doctorates in fields that address the complex science and engineering problems faced by the NNSA."

Congrats, Jay Broda and Jason Reed!

Jay and Jason were named one of November's Be a Bengal nominees. Jay received his nomination for exemplifying compassion, and Jason's was for stability.

Each month, employees are nominated for their dedication to one of ISU's guiding principles - trust, compassion, stability, and hope.
