Girls Basketball Rules the Day

Last Saturday night, the Lady Crusader basketball team won the North Coast Section Division 5 Championship! Putting an exclamation point on a seven-year run of NCS Championship game appearances, the Lady Crusaders beat the Cloverdale Eagles 56-36. The section championship proved to be the gift that kept on giving, as the Lady Crusaders were then awarded the #1 seed in Division 5 North representative in the CIF State Championships. The Lady Crusaders went on to secure a forfeit victory on Tuesday night over Western Sierra Collegiate Academy. On Thursday night, the Lady Crusaders faced Notre Dame High School from Salinas and were victorious with a 55-41 win. The Lady Crusaders will meet Cloverdale on their court again on Saturday at 6:00 pm.
Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange Appreciation

Who remembers Sister Anne (pictured left)? She was at St. Bernard's High School in 1974.
We are gathering stories of times when a member of the Sisters of St. Joseph impacted our lives here at St. Bernard's. Our plan is to put the stories together and present them to the Sisters in appreciation of all they have done for our school community over the years.

A Celebration of Life

St. Bernard's Elementary Teacher Mr. Patrick Stringer passed away in February. Alumnus Kathleen Lynch, Class of '92, shares some of her thoughts after attending his celebration of Life.

"I was so fortunate to have Mr. Stringer as my eighth grade teacher. He was an incredibly hard worker who ran a janitorial business in the early morning hours before coming to school to teach us. Once at school he shared his knowledge, passion and sense of humor with his students. He mentored us by demonstrating compassion while holding us to high standards. I enjoyed a few cool coincidences after the service today. Driving through Eureka I noticed that the theater's Flashback movie this week was To Kill a Mockingbird. Mr. Stringer taught us that book and showed us the movie in class. It remains my favorite book to this day. Upon arriving at the restaurant I saw a glass full of DumDum lollipops on the bar. Mr. Stringer had a Lollipop Tree with DumDum's on it for students to get a lollipop whenever they earned a perfect score. Thanks for the great memories Mr. Stringer. I can only strive to have the patience and kindness you gave to me when working with my students now."
