Dear Cancer Support Community Friend,

I have met so many generous and giving people through my work with the Cancer Support Community. I believe we all truly want to make a difference - but life, work, and, in many cases, our health concerns make it hard to find time to give back.

That's the idea behind National Give Something Away Day on July 15 . It's a day to recognize how great it feels to give back, whether that means donating belongings, spending a couple of hours volunteering, or making a financial gift to an organization that's important to you.

When we make the space to share our time, treasure and talent, we end up getting rewarded in many ways. We make lifelong friends, we create hope for people facing challenges, and, according to many studies , we reap powerful health benefits!

Please read on for stories of people who chose to give something away to help CSCVVSB. Want to give something away this month? You'll find opportunities for making a difference in this newsletter and on our website .

Sincerely,
Andrea Roschke, CPA
Chair, CSCVVSB Board of Directors
FACES OF GIVING: MEET AMINA PASHA
When Amina Pasha lost her uncle to thyroid cancer, it deeply affected her and her family. The Westlake High rising Junior decided to channel her feelings into a project to help the Kids Circle group at CSCVVSB, and she ended up making a difference in a very unique way!

3 EASY WAYS TO GIVE BACK IN JULY (#2 INVOLVES SHOPPING!)
  1. Celebrate Christmas in July! Save the date for the 25th Annual Holiday Homes Tour, Saturday December 1 and Sunday December 2, 2018. Exciting news: We are currently accepting new homes for our tour. This is a fun way to use the magic of the holidays to give back in a huge way. Learn more here.
  2. Celebrate Prime Day on Monday, July 16, starting at noon! On one of the biggest shopping days of the year, support CSCVVSB by shopping through this link: smile.amazon.com/ch/77-0205691. You pay nothing extra, but Amazon donates a small portion of your payment to CSCVVSB.

FACES OF GIVING: MEET JOHN RAY
John “JR” Ray is CEO and Co-Founder of C.I. Partners Direct, a national fundraising and consulting firm headquartered in Ventura. In addition to serving on the CSCVVSB Board of Directors, JR has provided financial support to the organization as well as pro bono mailing and technical expertise to the staff.

JR is a cancer survivor and a member of the Prostate Cancer Networking Group at CSCVVSB. "Since I was touched by cancer, I feel for what others are going through," says JR. " I know that CSCVVSB can help them talk through treatment options, understand their own or their loved one’s cancer better, and thrive post-treatment."

THANK YOU FOR MAKING OUR MATCHING EVENT A SUCCESS!
We set a goal, and our unstoppable supporters not only met it - you surpassed it. We are thrilled to share the news that our recent matching appeal exceeded our $35,000 goal!

This successful event would not have been possible without the generous couple who, after benefiting from CSCVVSB's services, gave back in a tremendous way and offered to match all donations in June up to $35,000. And we would not have met our goal without the giving spirit of every single person who decided to participate in the matching event. When it comes to hope for people affected by cancer, every dollar counts.
