Gales Culinary Arts Students Get Early Holiday Present

The students in Lancaster High School’s Gales Culinary Arts program have been extended a unique opportunity that resulted from their recent involvement in the community.

On Dec. 19, the students were treated to an upscale culinary experience at the Cameron Mitchell restaurant Ocean Club, as well as the opportunity to tour the kitchen, interact with the head chef, and gain a better understanding of the operations behind a fine dining establishment.

The experience was made possible through the generosity of Brad Hutchinson, owner of The Mill Event Center in Lancaster, who was impressed by the caliber of work presented by the students during several recent community events.

“The talented students in the Gales Culinary Arts program catered the Breakfast with Santa event in November and the Lancaster Christmas Tree Lighting in early December – both of which impressed Mr. Hutchinson,” said Gales Culinary program’s Chef Jeffrey Cecil. “As a result, Mr. Hutchinson graciously offered to arrange and provide an amazing experience at the Ocean Club for the students.”

Lancaster City Schools Superintendent Nathan Hale said he is pleased to see the hard work and talent displayed by the culinary students recognized.

“Any time students can gain insight into a possible career it is beneficial,” Hale said. “The fact that this opportunity arose because of the talent they already have exhibited makes the experience that much more meaningful. It’s something these kids will always remember.”

A Holiday Greeting from Superintendent Hale

As the holiday season unfolds, let me first wish each of you a happy and healthy 2023.

This sentiment carries a lot more weight in a post-pandemic world, especially as we embark upon the cold and flu season. Please be mindful of your well-being in the coming weeks and take the time to rest and take care of yourselves.

I am excited for 2023 and all the learning and accomplishments it will bring to each of our schools, as well as to students and faculty. While I'm not a huge fan of resolutions, I can say that our administration is committed to making it the best year possible.

But first, we must get through the winter months and with them, the possibility of inclement weather. Official announcements concerning school cancellations and early dismissal are received by every student using the most recent contact information provided to your child's school. If that information has changed, please let your school's secretary know immediately. The contact list is updated regularly.

Finally, while this is a season of giving, it also is a season of need. If you or someone you know is in need of food, utilities, healthcare services or basic necessities, I urge you to reach out to Fairfield County 2-1-1 at fairfieldcounty211.org for a comprehensive list of available resources. And of course, your school's faculty members are willing to help you find answers when possible.

I hope this holiday is merry and bright for each of you and I look forward to all that we will accomplish in the coming year.

Sincerely,

Nathan Hale, Superintendent
