Dear Cancer Support Community Friend,
Have you seen our 2017 Year in Review ? The fact that last year CSCVVSB served more than 2,300 people affected by cancer fills me with hope. Hope that we can serve even more people this year. Hope that the thousands of people who participate in CSCVVSB programs will find friendship to replace isolation, peace to replace anxiety, and answers to replace questions.
The information in our Year in Review is more than a collection of numbers. It is a reminder that every group meeting, every dollar donated, and every volunteer hour counts.

As always, thank you for being part of our community.

Andrea Roschke, CPA
Chair, CSCVVSB Board of Directors

If you happened to attend the Holiday Homes Tour back when it started in the early 1990s, you may have seen two young sisters handing out shoe covers or volunteering as docents. As the tour gained momentum and popularity over the next quarter century, those teens grew up along with it, volunteering their time each year in service of people affected by cancer in our community.

This year is no different for Becky and Molly Buck. Both sisters are serving on the Holiday Homes Tour committee, Becky as Marketing Chair and Molly as Raffle and Opportunity Coordinator.

As if volunteering many hours on the committee wasn't enough, the Buck sisters attend the Tour and accompanying Holiday Boutique every single year, bringing clients and friends to encourage them to make it an annual tradition, too.
"We make a day of it," says Becky, who is Director of Operations for Los Robles Homecare Services, Inc . "We dress up in our festive holiday attire, take them out for breakfast, tour the homes, and then go shopping at the Boutique."

Gynecological Cancer Support Group
1st and 3rd Fridays at CSCVVSB, 530 Hampshire Road, Westlake Village. Registration required: 805.379.4777

September is Gynecological Cancer Awareness Month, and CSCVVSB now offers a support group exclusively for women affected by this type of cancer, facilitated by Peggy Johnston, MA, LMFT (pictured). "Women come together with their stories, not just about treatment, but also how the cancer has changed their lives," says Peggy, who has been a CSCVVSB facilitator for nearly 20 years. "They also discuss new treatments, trials, doctors, and how cancer has affected their family and friends. I would encourage women to join not only for the information but also for the connection with others who are really there for one another."

About the Facilitator
Originally from the Boston area, Peggy Johnston moved to California when her husband Tom was transferred in 1965. They raised four children in Northridge and moved to Thousand Oaks after the earthquake to be closer to their five grandchildren. Peggy loves to travel, golf, and garden. After reading about CSCVVSB (then called The Wellness Community) in the newspaper, Peggy was so impressed with the community that she joined the team. A Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, she has been facilitating CSCVVSB support groups for nearly 20 years.
