What's Happening in Youth Next Week at Storrs Library

Summer Reading Program
Children from birth through entering grade six are welcome to register for the 2022 Children’s Summer Reading Program "Read Beyond the Beaten Path" online, then venture to Storrs Library to pick up a reading log. Children earn Discovery Dollars by reading and listening to stories and earn Discovery Tickets by attending programs. There will be prizes and raffles all summer long!
 
The 2022 Statewide Summer Reading Program is sponsored by the Storrs Library, The Massachusetts Regional Library System, the Boston Bruins, & the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.
Teens entering grades seven through twelve are welcome to register for the 2022 Teen Summer Reading Program "Read Beyond the Beaten Path" online, then venture to Storrs Library to pick up a reading log. Teens earn Discovery Dollars by reading and listening to books, magazines, podcasts and more and earn Discovery Tickets by attending programs. There will be prizes and raffles all summer long!

The Richard Salter Storrs Library will partner with the Longmeadow Parks and Recreation Summer Camp to collect items of need for campers. Items needed include towels, sunblock, water shoes, goggles, and backpacks. Items will be collected in the Storrs Library lobby from June 13 until August 13. 
Art Exhibit: Like Father, Like Daughter
Storrs Library welcomes artists Steve Shelasky and Marla Shelasky and their exhibit titled, Like Father, Like Daughter. View the beautifully detailed nature photography of Steve Shelasky and the wonderfully textured and colorful woven paintings of Marla Shelasky. There will be a presentation by the artists on Monday, June 6 at 6:30 sponsored by the Longmeadow Arts Community. The exhibit is available for viewing during the month of June anytime the room is not in use.

LHS Late Nights
Sunday, June 12, 5:00-10:00
On, Sunday June 12 from 5-10 pm, Tuesday June 14 from 8-10pm, and Wednesday June 15 from 8-10 pm, Longmeadow High School students are invited to study for final exams at Storrs Library. Meeting Rooms are available for group study and refreshments will be provided. LHS ID required for admission. This is an LHS only event, the Library will be closed to all others.
Summer Reading Kick Off Party

Join Storrs Library Staff on the Front Lawn on Monday, June 13 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. for our Summer Reading Program Kick-Off Party! Pick up a bookmark, a calendar of summer library program and events, and enjoy an ice cream sandwich! 

The Summer Reading Kick-Off Party is sponsored by the Meadows Lodge of Masons.

Meet Boomer from the Springfield Thunderbirds
Monday, June 13, 4:00-5:00
Boomer from the Springfield Thunderbirds will be here to help Storrs Library start off our Summer Reading Kickoff Party! Come meet Boomer and learn about the Springfield Thunderbirds Stick to Reading program. Children who complete the program will receive a ticket to a Thunderbirds home game!

The Stick to Reading program is presented by MassMutual.
Mr. Vinny the Bubble Guy
Monday, June 13, 5:00-5:45
Mr. Vinny the Bubble Guy will help Storrs Library pop into Summer Reading! Join us for all the fun on the front lawn. There will be bubbles, music, running, laughing and summer reading registration. Children will need supervision by a caregiver for this event.

This program is supported by a grant from the Longmeadow Cultural Council a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.
Newbies (birth-15mo)
Tuesday, June 14, 10:00-10:45
Pathways for Parents CFCE presents Newbies at Storrs Library. Participants in this group will receive developmental milestone information, ways to engage in floor time play, resources, and opportunities to connect to other caregivers of children this age. Newbies is targeted for ages birth-15 months old. This program will be held on the Front Lawn of Storrs Library, weather permitting. Please bring a blanket or mat. If there is inclement weather the program will be cancelled.


This program is sponsored by Pathways for Parents. Pathways for Parents is administered by Ludlow Public Schools and is funded by the Coordinated Family Community Engagement Grant through the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care.

Grow Play Learn (birth-5yrs)

Join Pathways for Parents CFCE for Grow Play Learn on the Front Lawn of Storrs Library. This group will include a storytime curriculum, fun outdoor play activities and the Ages and Stages Questionnaire. This program is geared for children up through age five with a caregiver. This program will be on the Front Lawn, so please bring a blanket or mat. If there is inclement weather the program will be cancelled.

LEGOs at the Library (gr K+)
Wednesday, June 15, 3:30-4:15
Children in kindergarten and older are invited to join us for a storytime and LEGO building experience. Design and build a structure, then name it and display it!

Doggie Storytime: Read to Therapy Dog Lucky

Lucky the Therapy Dog is coming back to Storrs library! Lucky, a gentle and patient pup, loves to listen to books and will follow along while you read. You can bring a book or two from home, or borrow one of Storrs Library's picture books to read aloud. Register for a ten-minute time slot. Lucky is attended by his trainer, Mary. All ages welcome. 
Making Crafts for Dads & More with More Than Mom

Fathers and Friends Origami

Our local origami expert will teach us how to make shirts and ties from origami paper to celebrate all the special people in our lives. Friends under five will need help from a caregiver. Please register.
Get Lost at the Library (ages 4+)

Oh no, there's a strange spot in the library where everyone keeps getting lost! Children ages four and up and their caregivers are invited to come color a compass rose and see if they can solve the riddle of the Lost Library. Can anyone figure out north, south, east, and west and win a prize?
Teen Lawn Games
Saturday, June 18, 1:00-2:30
Teens are invited to join us on the front lawn for some fun lawn games. We'll have ladder golf, giant jenga, lawn darts, and more! 
In Case You Missed It...
Weekly Guessing Jar
Pop into the Discovery Room to test your estimating skills and enter a chance to win a prize. The participant who guesses correctly, or has the closest guess, wins the jar, the contents and a plush.
Teen's Weekly Guessing Jar
Pop into the YA Room to test your estimating skills and enter a chance to win a prize. The participant who guesses correctly, or has the closest guess, wins the jar and the contents.
Weekly Scavenger Hunt
Go on a quest in the Discovery Room and locate the list of items hidden around the room. Each week a new Scavenger Hunt will be displayed. One lucky participant will win a prize at the end of the week. Join us in the fun!  
Weekly Drop-In Craft
Stop by the Discovery Room every week to work on a drop-in craft. Each week there will be a new craft out and available while supplies last.
