Happy Summer Friends!

Summer

News & Notes

Summer is here and the Summer Library Program is in full swing. Thanks to those Friends of the Library members who assisted with the Program Kick-Off on June 8. Over 500 children, teens, and adults attended. We hope you have registered for the Library Program and are taking advantage of the many activities and events offered. Learn more about the Summer Library Program at the library's website, mfplibrary.org.

The Summer Library Program will wrap up with Library Mini Golf on August 3 and 4. August 3 will be an adults only party with fun, music, food and drink, and mini golf throughout the library. August 4 is a family day where families can beat the heat and play a free round of indoor mini golf in the library stacks. The Friends of the Library Board voted to sponsor one of the golf holes, so be sure to check it out.

The Library needs our help with these events, and an email will be sent this week asking for volunteers. If you can sign up for one of the two-hour shifts, it will be greatly appreciated and a lot of fun.

At our June meeting, the Board of Directors voted to give a memorial donation to the library in memory of Rich Herr, long-time valued volunteer at the Mammen Family Public Library and a lifetime member of the Friends. The memorial donation will be used to help fund a feature in the library's recently acquired property as this property is developed for community use.

A special shout out to all of you who helped make our Eclipse glasses fundraiser a big success. The Friends were able to raise a total of $2,200 by selling the glasses in advance of the April eclipse. Additionally, we gave a free pair to Friends of the Library members and the library staff. We would also like to thank the library staff who sold the glasses for us at the front desk and to the programming staff who helped procure the glasses. Our library staff is awesome!

Stop by the Book Nook and take a look at our new purple shelves, courtesy of Library Director, Susan Herr. They really brighten up the area, as well as set off the Book Nook from the rest of the library. While you are checking the purple shelves out, stock up on books for the summer. You can't beat the Book Nook prices. Did you know the Board randomly selects two members each month at the monthly meeting for a $5 Book Nook coupon? You might be the lucky winner this month.

The Board would like to thank the following for renewing their FOL membership for 2024: Effi Brandenburg, Phyllis Jordan, Alax Phelan, Mickey Riviere, and Wanda Wright. Your membership dues help the Friends support the Library and the FOL. You make a difference!

If you are looking for volunteer opportunities, there is still a vacant position on our Board. This position is for the remainder of 2024. It would be a good way to test the waters and see if you might be interested in a three-year position on the Board. We would love to hear from you. Contact Mary Lu Zellers at folpresident@mfplibrary.org if you are interested.

The Board of Directors will not have a formal meeting in July. We are taking that time to update our standing rules and plan for the rest of the year. Our next meeting will be Monday, August 19 at 2:00 p.m.
