The Shotcrete Nozzleman Education session, a prerequisite for those pursuing ACI Shotcrete Nozzleman Certification, will be held at the International Pool Spa Patio Expo in New Orleans, LA, November 6, 2019. This session is a great resource for all seeking a better understanding of the shotcrete process, from concrete chemistry to safety tips, and is also appropriate for pool contractors, project managers, and supervisors using shotcrete on their pool projects but not necessarily pursuing certification. ASA at Chicago Build 2019
ASA is pleased to be an event partner of Chicago Build 2019. Hosted at the McCormick Place, Chicago, IL, this event will be held September 19-20, 2019. ASA will be hosting a seminar, September 19, 2019, “Architectural Shotcrete – Creative, Sustainable and Durable Concrete Structures Using Shotcrete,” presented by Charles Hanskat, ASA Executive Director. This seminar will give the owner, architect, engineer, project specifier, field inspector, and general contractors an overview on how shotcrete can allow flexibility and creativity in a variety of architectural and structural concrete applications.

Breakthroughs in Tunneling Short Course
ASA is proud to be a supporting organization of the 12th Annual Breakthroughs in Tunneling Short Course. Presented by leading practitioners from around the globe, the Breakthroughs in Tunneling Short Course focuses on real-world solutions for real-world problems. Tunneling topics will include cutting-edge case studies, developing technologies, and trends from around the globe. Ground improvement and construction grouting has become an important part of tunnel and shaft construction. This year’s course will also include presentations by speakers on various ground improvement techniques, including jet, compaction, permeation, consolidation and contact grouting, as well as ground dewatering and freezing for tunnel, shaft, and cross-passage construction. ASA Shotcrete Contractor Education

The Shotcrete Contractor Education program covers best practices by the contractor for quality shotcrete construction. The Shotcrete Contractor Education will be presented by Charles Hanskat, P.E., FACI, FASCE. He is the Executive Director and Technical Director for the ASA and has been involved in the design, construction, evaluation and repair of environmental concrete, marine, building and shotcrete structures for 40 years. Topics of this seminar will include materials, equipment, personnel, application, QC/QA, curing, protection, and project management. A required first step in the ASA Contractor Qualification Program, this seminar will provide an opportunity to take the required written exam. This is a valuable course for contractors to learn more about the details and requirements for quality shotcrete placement, regardless of their intent to pursue qualification. ASA Shotcrete Inspector
Education

The Shotcrete Inspector program covers critical elements of shotcrete applications that on-site inspectors must know to evaluate and sign-off on acceptance documents for shotcrete. The Shotcrete Inspector Education will be co-presented by Hanskat and Oscar Duckworth. An ASA member with over 25,000 hours of nozzle time, Duckworth is an ASA/ACI Examiner for the wet- and dry-mix processes. He serves on the ASA Board of Directors and as Chair of ASA’s Education Committee. Topics in this seminar includes material selections, equipment, placement techniques, finishing, curing, protection, testing, and safety as it relates to the building official or inspector. This seminar is the recommended educational component to ACI’s new Shotcrete Inspector Certification Program that is expected to be launched in 2019. The seminar will count as a portion of the work experience required for the ACI certification and review the reference materials required for the ACI certification examination.
