Hello Everyone!

The thing about Vermont, of course, is that everyone has their places, and the beauty of it is that you often find new ones each time you visit. Our newsletters are an endless collection of “incredible things to do” that we continue to discover. Edgar Degas Exhibition…

… at The Clark Museum. Edgar Degas: Multi-Media Artist in the Age of Impressionism (July 13 – October 6, 2024). is timed to coincide with the 150th anniversary of the First Impressionist Exhibition, held in Paris in 1874, highlights the innovative and experimental practices of Edgar Degas in the realm of works on paper. Furthermore, the exhibition also draws attention to Degas’s friendships with other Impressionist artists who were similarly inclined toward technical experimentation. The Corning Museum of Glass Exhibition began yesterday, and, don’t forget about the Guillaume Lethière exhibition!

Botticelli's Birth of Venus... in Vermont!

Don’t worry, The Birth of Venus, is still in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, Italy. However, this is a Stave Puzzle, located in Norwich, Vermont. The Smithsonian Magazine once called Stave, “The Rolls Royce of Wooden Jigsaw Puzzles.” They went on to say, “There are jigsaw puzzles and then there are jigsaw puzzles. Some are a lot sneakier than others.” These puzzles are diabolical, expensive, beautiful and maddeningly difficult, Stave puzzles explore baffling new jigsaw frontiers. This puzzle starts at $895, and we’ve learned that a Stave puzzle can go for upwards of $10,000! Every Stave puzzle is a work of art!

Another Hacker-Craft Facility Tour…

Everyone has a blue blazer... but, maybe not this one!

The classic navy or blue blazer has always been distinctly nautical. Early credit in the late 1800s goes to the rowers at Cambridge and Oxford universities, another story credits a sea captain for its creation—perhaps, the HMS Blazer can somehow be attributed… seems plausible. About the same time, John Hacker built his first rowboat at age fourteen (1891). By the 1930s, Brooks Brothers owned this wardrobe essential, while Hacker boats had won three consecutive Gold Cup World Championships, two of which were on Lake George in the mid-1930s. El Lagarto, designed and built by Hacker was the undisputed “fastest boat in the world.” Next week, we return to the Hacker-Craft facility with our guests for another fascinating tour. Little Lad's Popcorn • Brattleboro, Vermont

We Visited Little Lad's Popcorn Production Facility...

Kay discovered Little Lad’s popcorn at H.N. Williams General Store—the summer home of the Dorset Farmers’ Market. The afternoon snack was incredibly delicious, and soon learned it was produced here in Vermont. We contacted the company, and after a few telephone conversations, we became the first customer that visited their production facility in Brattleboro. That’s Kay with forty gallons of “production sweepings” — a nearby family of crows have become the daily beneficiary, and our guests photographed a stunning gray fox that has also benefited from our ‘popcorn largess.”

Things to Consider...

Summer Veuve Clicquot...

Nothing says “summer has arrived” more than a well-chilled bottle of our favorite champaign—we like it on the colder side, but not too cold, 45° is about right to preserve the champaign’s aroma. Did you know… Veuve Clicquot was the first producer rosé champaign, and is the original "Rosé All Day." Madame Clicquot made this by adding in red wines from Bouzy, thus creating the famous pink color.
