San Diego County Operations Center (COC) Fleet Maintenance Facility
MDG is thrilled to see the new San Diego COC Fleet Maintenance Facility in action. San Diego County celebrated the opening of this phase of the COC development in May, and their Fleet Management Division has since been operating out of this beautiful new facility.

Centrally located, the new fleet facility provides easy access to government services for the public as well as reduced deadhead for the fleet.

San Diego County needed to expand its fleet maintenance facility into a larger, more functional vehicle maintenance and operations base. This project was master planned, with the old maintenance building re purposed as a new crime lab facility.

MDG embraced the challenge of locating the maintenance facility under four levels of newly constructed county parking, integrating it into the ground floor of an 830-stall parking structure. The fleet facility features 32 vehicle service bays, administrative offices with restrooms and lockers, vehicle parts storage, and other storage areas within a 46,000-square-foot area.

MDG, as part of a team with McCarthy and Parking Design Solutions, worked with San Diego County to reconfigure the master plan, develop a space needs program, and create the design criteria for the maintenance building. MDG also provided the equipment list, equipment layout drawings, and related MEP services for the bridging documents.

Facilities Maintenance Plans Save Time, Money, and Headaches
What is the cost of doing nothing to your maintenance facility?  You have a preventive maintenance (PM) program for vehicles being maintained in your facility, why not have a PM program for your facility!

Having a "run it 'til it breaks" approach ultimately ends up costing you time and money.  A Facility Maintenance Plan (FMP) helps you extend the useful life of your facility, maintain energy efficiency, and reduce facility maintenance costs by providing a comprehensive manual for maintaining building finishes, components, systems, and equipment. An FMP provides a program to help you maintain buildings, just like you care for vehicles!

By creating a work order and PM schedule for each building system, you can use the FMP to track failure trends and warranty issues and plan ahead with replacement budgeting. An FMP  helps you reduce costly emergency repairs and downtime, and engage in preventive and predictive maintenance. An FMP also supports the asset management requirements of the FTA Triennial Review that requires recording facility maintenance activities for federally-funded projects.

According to studies, using a preventive maintenance program can result in savings of 30 to 40% over a solely reactive one. Having an FMP for your facility saves money, time, and headaches! Contact us so we can help you save money and get you on the road to a healthier facility.
