PBS Year End Updates

It's that time of year when PSI receives questions regarding updates for 2019 Year End.

Currently, we have not received any information of proposed federal changes, however, that window is still open.

We will remain on top of this and if anything changes, we will let you know. This information also applies to updates for PSI's ACA products.

PBS Sales and Use Tax Compliance

On June 21 st 2018, the US Supreme Court overturned the Quill decision, a nexus law established in 1992 and established a new kind of nexus, economic nexus as the law of the land- called the Wayfair decision. With the Wayfair decision, states are now legally empowered to require “remote sellers” (businesses with no physical presence in their state) to register and collect sales and use taxes and remit such taxes on the state’s schedule.

If you have not explored the impact this may have on your business, please call your accountant and do so asap, for your own sake.

In the meantime, here are some steps you can take right away to look at your economic nexus determination (usually last year sales totals and the state threshold) to see the states where you will need to comply.

  1. One of the first questions a business owner now needs to ask is "What were my total sales by state for 2018?"
  2. How many invoices (transactions) did we do in 2018 by state? Either of these could trigger economic nexus.
  3. You can also start to set up GL Accounts for each taxing authority and the tax codes to handle your transaction taxation.
  4. And maybe most important, if you sell to resellers or to not-for-profit exempt organizations, focus on cleaning up any lax areas of resale exemption certificate management. Make sure you have proper exemption and resale certificates, or other state forms as required by each state where your customers are located.

Best Kept Secrets of PBS
Did you know that Shift/F12 allows you to switch from Character to GUI (graphical user interface) or GUI to Character on the fly? This allows heads-down data entry at keystroke speeds, but also allows the much-improved navigation of the Windows environment available in the “Options” menu with multiple selections of items from that list, a true benefit of PBS GUI. If you are using PBS AP to select vouchers for payment in the GUI screen you know what an improvement this represents.       Read more
