A Message From Our Manager
Happy New Year from all of us at the Chandler Public Library! I'd like to take a moment to thank the community for its ongoing support and patronage of the library. 2020 was an unprecedented year for all of us, and we have adapted library services as much as possible so that we can continue to engage Chandler citizens. I'm incredibly proud of each and every staff member at Chandler Public Library and our efforts to remain accessible to the community.

In response to Covid-19, CPL has implemented or introduced several new resources and services. Digital collections have grown so that e-versions of reading material are more available, and we are incredibly excited about PressReader, a new database subscription for us that provides online access to global magazines and newspapers. As travel has been restricted or ill-advised for much of the year, PressReader offers a way to stay connected with events and news from countries around the world where we might normally travel, We've also offered many virtual and self-guided programs to our users, including our annual Summer Reading Challenge, High Five efforts, and thousands of Grab & Go kits for families to pick up in each of our four locations and take home to safely complete the activities. Many library users have also enjoyed our Bag o' Books program as a way to receive staff selected material in ready-to-go packages. Community members who rely on us for Internet access have been able to make computer reservations to enter our facilities in a safe and controlled manner. Each step along the way, we've carefully balanced community needs with staff wellness.

As we enter 2021, I'll be eagerly anticipating a full return to regular services and programs, though the timeframe for this process is unknown at this point. We will continue to follow CDC guidelines as well as municipal, county and state direction regarding community engagement. I wish you and your families a happy and healthy New Year!
Book Donation
Read On Arizona was selected to receive a grant of new children's books to help the families they serve to create word-filled homes and promote reading and learning. The donation was from The Molina Foundationa national nonprofit organization focused on reducing disparities in access to education and health, as part of its Book Buddies 2020 program to promote literacy. As a partner of Read On Arizona the Chandler Library received 2,000 books that will be distributed in Grab and Go bags in the month of January.
"We feel extremely honored and very much appreciate this gift for families throughout Arizona," said Arizona Literacy Director, Terri Clark. "Our Acceleration Zones serve communities with the highest need and they care about supporting the success of children and families they serve. Literacy is the key to progress for every community in Arizona."
Read On Arizona is a statewide, public/private partnership of agencies, philanthropic organizations, and community stakeholders committed to creating an effective continuum of services to improve language and literacy outcomes for Arizona's children from birth through age eight over the next ten years. The goal of the program is to provide resources to help children, parents, and caregivers throughout Arizona.

Monday Afternoon Book Discussion - Writers & Lovers by Lily King
Monday Evening Book Discussion - The Night Watchman by Louise Erdrich
Book Lovers Group: This group is designed to allow participants to read what they want and still have a common thread with the rest of the group. For example, one month the discussion may be about biographies. That means you can read any biography you want and share with the group. This approach will not only allow everyone to read something of interest to him or her but help to branch out into genres that may be interesting.

Graphic Novel Book Club: Join us for our new Graphic Novel Book Club! This month we will be reading and discussing Watchmen by Alan Moore.

Computer Upgrades

The Chandler Public Library is on a 5 year upgrade cycle to ensure that systems remain in good working order and provide a great experience for our patrons. This effort was recently completed at all four library locations.

Approximately 300 computers are available to the public. The software and operating system on the computers are continuously updated so they never fall behind on updates and features.

Library users can use the following software on any of the computers: Windows 10, Google Chrome, Word 2016, Excel 2016, PowerPoint 2016, Publisher 2016, VLC Media Player and accessibility software. Additionally, WiFi is accessible at no charge at our library locations. If you bring a WiFi enabled laptop or mobile device, you can stay connected and enjoy limited use during Library hours.

The Chandler Public Library places a high priority on public access to information resources as well as providing a safe and comfortable learning environment for all library users.
