Chandler Public Library to celebrate 10 years of LibCon

The Chandler Public Library will hold its 10th Annual LibCon on Friday, January 17th from 6:30pm to 9:00pm at the Chandler Hamilton Library. This event is for teenage fans of comics, anime, video games, cosplay and other fantasy and science fiction entertainment. The 2020 LibCon is especially meaningful since it celebrates 10 years of providing a special and unique opportunity for teens who enjoy both popular culture and the library.

This year's event will feature tabletop gaming and video gaming, as well as a selfie station. There will be plenty of fun and engaging activities of many fandoms for first timers at LibCon 2020 including crafts, a cosplay fashion show, a raffle drawing where teens could win prizes donated by the vendors. DJ Jamal will be in attendance once again to host a dance party and playing favorite fandom music. The vendor hall, which is has been very popular with attendees at previous Libcon events, will be in full swing again with many new and returning vendors.

LibCon is a concept that started at Chandler Public Library and has spread to other public libraries in the Valley. The goal of the event is to encourage and support teens as they discover their creative talents, and meet like-minded individuals where they can feel like they belong. LibCon is a welcoming event for teens to be themselves in a safe environment.

LibCon is a free, "teens only" event with no registration required. More information about the 10th annual LibCon event can be found online or on Facebook. The Chandler Hamilton Library is located at 3700 S Arizona Avenue; Chandler, Arizona 85248.

Author Marty Brounstein will present his book "Two Among the Righteous Few: A Story of Courage in the Holocaust." He brings a true interfaith story of courage, compassion, and rescue about a couple in the Netherlands named Frans and Mien Wijnakker who, despite much risk and danger, saved the lives of over two dozen Jews during World War II. Marty also has a meaningful personal connection to this story and its heroes, which he reveals in his engaging storytelling presentation.

This program is made possible by a partnership between Chandler Public Library, City of Chandler Diversity Office and the East Valley Jewish Community Center (EVJCC).
