Updates on Security

Dear WVCS Families,

This year we would like to add some more updates towards our progress and plans and today I would like to discuss our plans for campus security. Your child's safety remains our top priority, and we're excited to share vital updates about the new safety measures underway across our campus.

1. Did you notice the new security guards? Yes, we have added two armed guards to campus security. They are going to greet all cars entering campus without dashboard ID - we distributed new placards for all cars. We ask that you continue to display them on your dashboard to indicate you are part of our school family.

2. Monitoring and Regulating Entry Points: Our system generates immediate alerts to offices and cell phones if anyone enters the campus through the main gate from Sherman Way, ensuring constant vigilance and a prompt response to any intrusion.

3. Remote-Controlled Access Systems: in case of an unwanted guest entering the campus, we can swiftly lock down all doors 24/7, ensuring heightened security and controlled access.

4. Time-Specific Access Control: Our door management system enables us to regulate access based on schedules. Automatic opening and closing times for driveway gates, pedestrian gates, and classroom doors reinforce our security protocols, ensuring controlled access to different areas at designated times.

5. Heightened Fencing for Added Security: Seeking to bolster security measures, we plan to augment fence height in the southeast corner of the campus. In case of active shooter we have added a man-gate for additional escape route from south end of campus.

6. Visual ID Monitors at Pedestrian Gates: Installing visual ID monitors or QR codes at pedestrian gates strengthens our ability to identify authorized visitors. The system, integrated with cell phones, allows immediate access control, enhancing campus security by permitting only authorized individuals.

7. Enhanced Communication and Monitoring: Our deployed security control devices facilitate seamless monitoring and communication among key areas, directly linked to law enforcement. This ensures rapid responses to any security concerns, maintaining a vigilant watch over our campus.

8. AI-Equipped Surveillance Cameras: Equipped with AI tracking systems, our surveillance cameras proactively identify unauthorized individuals. These cameras are programmed to notify school offices, security, and administration in real-time for any unusual activities like new vehicle entries, any pedestrian walking on campus from Sherman Way, unauthorized access to behind buildings or throughout our campus.

9. Evaluation and Comparison of Security Companies: We are planning a shift in security guard companies allowing us to align with the most effective partner. This change reinforces our commitment to continuously optimize campus safety standards through a thorough comparison of services offered.

10. After school day care access gate will close at 4pm and require parents to enter from pedestrian gate near cafeteria entrance by school office.

To accommodate these additions, starting in February, for the remainder of the school year, a $30.00 monthly fee will be allocated towards campus security, ensuring the presence of an armed guard and an unarmed guard on-site. We understand that this additional monthly fee may pose financial challenges for some families. Should you face hardship, please reach out to Mr. Swales or Mrs. Herget to explore alternative assistance options. Your partnership in ensuring a safe and secure campus is incredibly valuable. If you have any questions or need further clarification on these updates, please feel free to reach out.

Caution: Construction in Progress

The sounds of hammering, sawing, and machinery were heard inside the 4th grade classroom Thursday morning as students prepared to enter the door draped in caution tape and construction signage. As a part of their study of area and perimeter, students engaged in an area and perimeter construction zone and put their knowledge of polygons and irregular figures to practice. Students rotated to various stations, measuring shapes taped to the floor of the classroom, and proceeded to find the area and perimeter of each figure. The students were so excited to measure with real tape measures and do math as a construction crew!

Art with Ms. Dela Cruz: Martin Luther King. Jr

In honor of Martin Luther King Jr., Ms. Dela Cruz's art class engaged in creating pencil portraits of Martin Luther King Jr. The students learned about Martin Luther King Jr. as they worked on their beautiful artwork. We are so proud of the art that they created and how they were able to honor such an inspirational man who changed the world for the better.

Go Falcons, Go!

Get ready to cheer for excitement! Our school's newest addition, the Falcons Cheer Team, is here to ignite school spirit and dazzle the crowd. We're so excited for everyone to be able to cheer along with our amazing girls on the squad!

Elementary Basketball Triumph

In an amazing display of skill, teamwork, and determination, our boys elementary basketball teams secured their first victory of the season on the court. The thrilling matchups showcased the culmination of their hard work and dedication.

The elementary team took to the court with unwavering enthusiasm. Despite their age, these young athletes exhibited an impressive level of skill and determination. The team had an absolute dominate game and took the win over Westmark with a score of 47-10! Chase Stewart led the team with 15 points.

The close-knit bond among the players was evident, as they seamlessly executed plays and supported each other on both ends of the court. Both teams secured their first victory, starting the season 1-0 and marking the beginning of what hopes to be a promising journey for these budding basketball stars. The next Elementary game will be Friday 1/19 here against Pilgrim at 4:00PM.

Little Mermaid Cast

Little Mermaid auditions were a huge success and the students really brought their A-game and talent! Mrs. Lampechkun is very excited to share the casts with you. These casts are going to do an amazing job bringing this fun and colorful musical to life.
