Mother of Pearl is made from the protective layers of calcium carbonate which line the inside of the pearl oyster shell. This is the same natural process and material as the pearl, and takes up to seven years to form. This particular "snow white" specimen, which is a perfect fit to go with Benjamin Moore's 2016 color of the year "Simply White," is the cleanest white that nature can produce and is stunning in appearance.
The beautiful shimmering white you see in this Mother of Pearl is caused by the repeating layers of pure white mineral going deep into the shell.
