Dr. Kyu Rhee Elected into the American Academy of Microbiology |
The American Academy of Microbiology has elected Dr. Kyu Rhee, a Professor of Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases, to its Class of 2024.
Fellows of the American Academy of Microbiology, an honorific leadership group within the American Society for Microbiology (ASM), are elected annually through a highly selective, peer-review process based on their records of scientific achievement and original contributions that have advanced microbiology. Improving Care for Hospitalized Patients with HIV |
Researchers led by Dr. Robert N. Peck, Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Global Health, have shown that three months of social worker follow-up support to people hospitalized with HIV in Tanzania had health benefits at low cost.
However, the JAMA study found that the care benefits didn’t translate to a decrease in mortality after one year. Read More

Dr. Bishoy Faltas has received the 2024 Irma T. Hirschl Career Scientist Award. The $200,000 award will support his project titled "Targeting cytidine-deaminase fitness drivers to steer cancer into evolutionary dead-ends."
On Jan. 24, 2024, the Richard T. Silver, MD Distinguished Visiting Professor Rüdiger Hehlmann, MD of Heidelberg University, founder of the European LeukemiaNet, presented at Medicine Grand Rounds on the topic of chronic myeloid leukemia as a paradigm for the cure of cancer.

The 4th Annual Weill Cornell-Imperial Joint Meeting, hosted by the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, took place Jan. 15-16, 2024. Researchers, post-doctoral fellows, and Ph.D. students from Weill Cornell Medicine and the National Heart and Lung Institute (NHLI) at Imperial College London came together to foster investigative interactions in an informal setting. Emphasis was on basic, translational, and clinical investigative studies currently underway throughout Weill Cornell Medicine in Immunology, Infection, Interstitial Lung Disease and Pulmonary Fibrosis (ILD/IPF), Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), and Sleep and Critical Care issues. Dr. Augustine M.K. Choi, Professor of Medicine and former Stephen and Suzanne Weiss Dean, provided opening remarks along with Drs. Clare Lloyd, Professor of Respiratory Immunology, NHLI, and Wisia Wedzicha, Professor of Respiratory Medicine, NHLI.

Dr. Evan Grossman, Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine (Pending Appointment at Rank), joined the Division of Gastroenterology & Hepatology faculty on January 1, 2024. Dr. Grossman received his M.D. from SUNY-Upstate, completed residency at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center and completed his fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Dr. Grossman previously served as Director of Gastroenterology Service at SUNY-Downstate..
Dr. Gaurav Ghosh, Assistant Professor of Medicine, joined the Division of Gastroenterology & Hepatology faculty on February 1, 2024. His focus will be motility. Dr. Ghosh received his M.D. from the University of Oklahoma. He completed his fellowship and residency at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center. He previously served as Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine at Columbia University, practicing at Stamford Health Medical Group.
