Dear Friends,
As we enter this season of gratitude, I find myself reflecting on the heart of our mission: ensuring every student has the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive. At Cuesta College, that commitment extends well beyond the classroom. It means standing alongside students when everyday challenges make it difficult to focus on their education.
Through the college's Basic Needs Center, students receive support for food, housing, health and well-being, transportation, textbooks, parking passes, technology, and more. When a student reaches out, our team responds with care and connection so they are not navigating these challenges alone.
Our Cougar Food Pantry also plays a vital role. Each week, students pick up staple items such as oatmeal, canned goods, peanut butter, pasta, granola bars, and other essentials—helping them stay nourished, focused, and grounded in a sense of belonging.
And when a student faces an unexpected crisis, the Cuesta Assistance for Student Emergencies (CASE) Fund allows us to offer immediate relief. A recent recipient shared:
"I'm a single mom with no family help. My car broke down recently, and I'm experiencing a delay in my CalFresh benefits this month. After paying rent, there's very little left. Any support would mean so much for my child and me."
We currently have $8,000 remaining in the CASE Fund, which is not very much at this point in the academic year.
To meet this need, the Cuesta College Foundation Board of Directors, Superintendent/President Dr. Jill Stearns through the President's Fund, and Foundation Board President Craig Darnell have each committed $5,000—creating a $15,000 match for the CASE Fund.
Between now and Dec. 2, your gift will be tripled—up to $15,000—multiplying your impact and providing immediate support for students facing urgent challenges.
Make a gift today to the CASE Fund to have your donation tripled and help students right now. You can even make your Giving Tuesday gift early to avoid the holiday inbox rush.
As we gather with loved ones in the weeks ahead, I hope we carry the reminder that community grows when we care for one another. Thank you for believing in our students and for helping open doors to their future.
With warm wishes for a joyful Thanksgiving season,
