MARCH 2023 CMC NEWS

DID YOU KNOW?

March is National Women's History Month

Classical Music Chicago was founded with a goal of diversity, equity and inclusion, and presenting young and established talent, both local and international,

in Chicago - always FOR FREE. CMC has fostered and promoted talented women since opening its doors.

June Anderson, the Grammy award-winning American coloratura soprano, became a sensation when she became the youngest national finalist at the Metropolitan Opera auditions - at the age of 17!

45 years ago, on March 29, 1978, when she was just 25, she performed on the

Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concert series.

March 8

In between performances at Australia's Bendigo International Chamber Music Festival, the award-winning pianist wowed audience members with Haydn's Sonata in C Major - a "breathtaking piece of music" as he refers to it in his blog, and Franck's Prelud, Aria et Final.

Chelsea Wang , piano

March 1

The award-winning pianist mesmerized in her DMHC return with a program spanning three eras in classical music - the dazzling Baroque, the Classical with its "clean lines" and 20th Century, with a large dollup of Jazz.

WHAT THEY'RE SAYING

"I am enormously honored to be featured in this illustrious series.

Some of my friends and colleagues whom I deeply admire played in this series, and of course Myra Hess

was a uniquely extraordinary artist."
