Hope Chest Testimonial from Loyal Customer, Larry Swafford
I've been asked to give you my impression of The Hope Chest Resale Market.  Probably the best thing to do is to tell you about the best resale shop that I know of in Houston. It is "The Hope Chest Resale Market"

For a little boy or girl they love going to this shop as it has an open, separate area full of organized, clean, well working toys!  You can go to this room and at times find 4 1/2 foot high Star Wars figures, Micky & Minnie Mouse collectibles, wonderful brightly colored play action toys, puzzles and great books.  To encourage reading they even have a book box outside that allows young readers to trade books so they can always have new books to read.

Ladies love the large ladies section of this store, filled with high end purses, shoes, belts, and fashionable clothes.  All clothes and shoes are clean, in excellent condition, and arranged, so color, size, and type of clothing that they need can be found easily.  Whether you're looking for high fashion dresses, leather goods, athletic wear, running shoes, high heels, and every type of casual footwear this fine store gets every kind of footwear from time to time.

Anyone that comes to the store looking for furniture is going to be in awe of all the wonderful furniture and styles that they have to choose from.  You can find furniture from the 1880's to the very latest in style, color, and fabrics from 2020. The store gets many pieces from show and model homes, furniture outlets, and private homes.

The store has over 20,000 square feet of floor space to display their furniture on.  Wonderful prints, wall decor, and hand painted pictures line the walls and the store gives specials every month on furniture and home decor.

While a person enjoys all the furniture choices there is also a re-purpose corner that one can find old stained windows, brass items, iron items, pulleys, miscellaneous and old tools and unique items.

There is also a separate lamp section, and next to it are bicycles, exercise equipment, appliances, bar stools, chairs, etc.

When an adult walks into the store, you'll get a welcome, many times from one of the fine volunteers, or workers, and from a floor banner, on an easel, that lets you known what is on special that day.  You'll also see a fully decorated 4000 square foot section that is full of cabinets, shelves, and beautiful old and new glass, collectibles of every sort, fine modern and antique sets of pottery and china, and so much more.  You can find some of the rarest pieces of glass, pottery, and collectibles that you may ever find in this store from time to time.
Whether young, old, or in between, you are going to love the people that run and work in this shop and the offerings of this impressive, clean,,and beautiful shop.  You never have to wonder if you're going to get waited on as there are always willing, helpful workers to help you and check you out.

I have been fortunate to watch this store  progress from the very first day that it opened and it never ceases to amaze me as to all the wonderful, sometimes rare items that this fine store has to offer.  We haven't mentioned all the gold, sterling silver, and costume jewelry this store has to offer. Neither have we mentioned the men's section with all of the fine suits, shirts, shoes, ties, and more.  We also haven't mentioned the separate book section with comfortable theater type seating, nor the section upstairs where special holiday items are offered along with special sales from time to time.

What a privilege it has been to tell you about this well run store!  It's always exciting to see all the new things that are added to the store daily and see all the special friends that I've made there just by being their customer.
February 2020

From the inception of Cy-Hope in 2011, our programs have grown to accommodate the needs of our neighbors in Cy-Fair. To expand our existing programs and implement new, sustainable programs we needed an income generating program that could help support us. The Hope Chest came to life! Our February newsletter highlights The Hope Chest. Read on to find out all about the resale boutique voted Best Resale in 2018 and 2019 by Living Magazine!
Spotlight on The Hope Chest Resale Market
We opened the Hope Chest Resale Market in September 2016 with bare floors and an empty donation area.  With the support of our community (wonderful donations, volunteer staff and community shoppers), we have grown by leaps and bounds! With a minimal staff and the generous help of over 185 active volunteers, our sales continue to increase and we are proud to support our programs in a substantial way. The Hope Chest served over 43,000 customers in 2019! We are not simply a boutique style resale market. We welcome our community - our friends! Within our 25,000 square foot store, you never know what treasures you might find. You will also find customers, volunteers and staff visiting, occasional craft classes and events. We look forward to our quarterly "Sip and Shop" events where we will remain open til 7 p.m. Our next Sip in Shop is Wednesday, February 19th . Please check our Facebook page for details. And, be sure to stop in for a visit!

We always have a need for additional volunteers. If you have 3-4 hours available, 1 day a week, please register for our volunteer orientation. Click here to register for our February Orientation.

The Hope Chest Helps Family Recover from Recent Explosion
We recently received this beautiful letter from a loyal customer that observed our awesome Hope Chest staff in action when a family needing assistance after the recent explosion that rocked a local community came into our store for the first time:

Good Morning,

My name is Janice Gomez and I was in your store on Thursday morning and I witnessed something that I think you should be aware of. I was shopping and looking at the jewelry and the ladies in the front were greeting people as they walked in the door. A family came in with 4 kids and they asked the lady with the jacket on a couple of questions and she seemed as if she didn't want to bother and went on to check other people out. One of the other ladies and I don't know her name, but she is there most of the time when I shop. She came around the counter and asked what they were looking for, well come to find out the family's house was very badly damaged in that explosion that happened. I couldn't help but overhear how she just listened to this couple and how unsure her children looked as they looked around. The family stated they had never shopped in a thrift store before and they were a little nervous, but funds were low because they were living in a motel and basically had not clothes or nothing for the baby to sleep in. She showed the mother and father with the baby outside and she took the other three children and whispered something to them but whatever it was it made these kids SMILE. She went around the racks behind me and helped these young early teenagers and maybe a pre-teen find some items. She never made them feel like they should be ashamed of wearing something someone donated. The parents in the meantime came back with a playpen full of items for the baby. The parents seemed relieved. Anyway, they continued to shop, and the mother began to have tears in her eyes. They loved the store and were so thankful for everything and almost seemed shocked by how nice everything was. I come into the store when I am in town to see my mother. I write for a small paper in my hometown, but I am going to share this story with a couple of friends of mine with a local TV station in Houston. This place needs to be featured because not only for the charity work it does but for the kindness and love it shows for people in your own community. I love coming here - it is one of the best resale stores I have ever been in. It is so organized and clean. I can't say enough about the variety of items you can find at the Hope Chest. Thank you for all your hard work.

Volunteer Spotlight - The Hope Chest
This month we would love to shine our spotlight on Glenda Rogers. After retiring from a long successful nursing career, Glenda joined our volunteer staff in 2016 along with her husband Pat. Glenda works at least three days a week in the warehouse (through hot and cold weather), sorting THOUSANDS of shoes, purses and accessories. In her "spare time" she helps sort incoming, and works in ANY area of need. She has an endless supply of energy! Her joyful heart and love for community makes her a treasure!  Thank you Glenda, for your time, hard work, and friendship - and for being our resident nurse! You are a blessing and we are so grateful for you!

Julie Hastings, The Hope Chest Store Manager
Julie joined our staff in 2016 and was instrumental in opening The Hope Chest. Her financial and organizational background were so helpful in setting our foundation and assisted in our growth and ability to serve our community. She is truly a blessing! A native of Newbury, England, Julie worked for an engineering company and transferred across the pond in 1987 with her husband. As her family grew, she volunteered and was very involved in school activities within the Cy-Fair school system. Her son graduated from Cy-Woods High School. Julie maintains the store and assures our quality and standards remain high. She strives to keep our store a cut above other resale markets! Julie has a heart for helping others. Dwayne Joubert, The Hope Chest Warehouse Manager
Dwayne, a Port Arthur native and father of three boys, moved to Houston in 2014 and into the Cypress area in 2017 after home damage from Hurricane Harvey. Dwayne joined our staff in 2018. His 20+ years of experience in oil refinery construction and maintenance and warehouse distribution gave him the experience he needed to become our logistics specialist. He oversees the many functions of our warehouse and guides a wonderful team of warehouse associates. The warehouse is truly where The Hope Chest begins! From donation intake, donation sorting, furniture pick-up and staging of furniture sales floor, to the day-to-day needs to keep the process flowing into the store, Dwayne's job is never dull! His kind heart and cheerful personality brings such joy to everyone that works with him. His nature is to help those around him. To quote him, "I love the job because of the nice people I work with and for what our business stands for. I'm very grateful for the opportunity to work here." We are very grateful for you Dwayne! Thank you for all you do for Cy-Hope and our community
