News from JFCS NNJ
Update from CEO, Susan Greenbaum
Tu B’shvat (15 th of Shevat), known as the New Year for Trees, is a day to appreciate nature and reflect on the years of nurturing necessary to yield growth. Similar to a tree whose roots grow deep underground, JFCS nurtures community members in ways that are sometimes unseen. It may seem curious to celebrate the birthday of the trees when it’s cold in Northern New Jersey and trees are barren, but we know that those trees are working beneath the surface to blossom again soon. We are grateful to help clients through their dormant winters, to reach a place of flourishing and change. To this end, JFCS has hired a psychiatric nurse practitioner to enhance our mental health services for children, adolescents, adults and seniors. We are happy to be able to offer this ever expanding range of services to the Northern New Jersey community. JFCS appreciates all those who partner with us as we assist people on their challenging journeys.

JFCS is making a difference for Senior Citizens in our community
At JFCS we offer seniors a wide variety of services. We received a grant last year from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to pilot Cooking Companions, a program that sets up volunteers to share a meal with home-bound seniors. We will be continuing this initiative after the conclusion of the grant due to its resounding success. One of our senior care managers recently received the following email (with emojis) from one of the participating seniors:

My dearest 😇,

Hope you and all the family are well and once again I wish you the happiest of New Years. May all your wishes be realized.
Thank you again for always being there for me. I truly appreciate what an amazing person you are .
To follow up on my cooking companion, Ellen is delightful. I saw her again this past Monday. We had lunch together and she visited for two hours. I enjoy our time together; we really have hit it off ! We laughed and shared interesting conversation. Once again, all your doing!

Thank you again for the gift cards. They are a G-D send and I am so grateful.

Look forward to seeing you again soon.
Take care 😇
In alignment with our strategic plan JFCS aims to be a thought leader and inform the community about important and current issues. Recently, CEO Susan Greenbaum and Director of Clinical Services Allison Limmer presented on the challenges, dangers, and opportunities of parenting in the age of technology at Yeshivat He’Atid’s parent night….
