Recipient of The Placer SPCA Boys Hero Award
On Friday, March 31, 2017, Placer SPCA presented Kitten Central with the 2017 Boys Hero Award, during their Funny Bones fundraising event. We want to thank everyone that nominated us. It was a huge honor to be chosen for such a prestigious award and to be recognized for our contribution to the community and local animal rescues and shelters. The award was accepted by Founder and CEO, Penny Dougherty.

New Feral Cat Program
Stopping the Cycle of Unwanted Kittens
This year Kitten Central was very fortunate to have received a grant from the Sacramento Valley Veterinary Medical Association for the purchase of six new custom designed feral cat cages to house feral moms with their kittens. These cages allow the safe handling of feral moms while they are still nursing their kittens.

Most of the kittens we receive are born to feral cats that have litter after litter, year after year. This program is designed to encourage the community, whenever possible, to trap and surrender these feral moms with their kittens instead of just surrendering the kittens.

The kittens are sponsored by one of our clients and entered into our Medical Fostering Program, while continuing to nurse. During this time, the kittens receive life saving antibodies from their mom. Once the kittens are weaned, the mom is spayed, vaccinated and returned to her original location; thus stopping the cycle of unwanted kittens from being born into the community in which they live.
Meet Our New Ambassadors
Kitten Central kicked off a new Outreach Program this spring.  Volunteer Coordinator Lee Hamilton Stolmack, Volunteer Janet Nicholson and Board member Janet Page are the new Ambassadors of Kitten Central of Placer County. Their mission is to be the public face of Kitten Central and spread the word about what we do and why we’re so unique.

With adorable kittens in hand, they have attended several Lincoln and Auburn Chamber of Commerce events and they were honored guests at the Placer SPCA Funny Bones event, where Kitten Central received the 2017 Boys Hero Award.

Pictured here, third from left to right, Janet Page, Lee Stolmack and Janet Nicholson, along with several other Kitten Central Volunteers and Foster Moms with their kittens, hosted Kitten Central’s Big Day of Giving event on May 4th, at Pet Food Express in Roseville. They raised over $600 for the kittens while making a lot of new friends! A big "Thank You" to everyone that donated that day, both at the event and online! The donations we received from this event will fund us for 4-6 months.

If you are interested in having our Ambassadors come and talk with your organization about Kitten Central and how we save lives and reduce euthanasia rates in local shelters and rescues, please e-mail ambassadors@kittencentral.org.  They might even bring kittens!
