Announcement of Peace United Church of Christ’s Annual Congregational Meeting

Sunday, June 28, 2026

After Worship

Dear Fellow Members of Peace United Church of Christ:

I hope you have some time before our congregational meeting on Sunday to review the 2026 Peace United Church Annual Report that is attached to this message.

In the report you will read about what the ministries of our church have been doing for the past year, including our work in COPA and the Prophets of Hope Jail Ministry. Other reports from Buildings and Grounds, Congregational Support, Chancel Choir, Peace Village Housing, among others, are worth your attention prior to our meeting.

The full 2026-27 budget that church council recommends the congregation adopt is also included in the report. Read it over and prepare any questions that arise.

We also need your vote on approval of the slate of new council members.

I encourage all members of the congregation to attend the meeting. Your comments and questions are important as we plan for the upcoming year. Friends of our congregation are welcome to attend as well. Though non-members do not have a vote, we value their presence and contributions to table discussions.

In Christ’s peace,

Tony Augimeri

Moderator

Year-end appreciations, business, deliberations, sharing and LUNCH. $5 - $10 donation suggested. Save the date and see you in our Fellowship Hall.

On June 14th, Consecration Sunday, we gratefully accepted the pledges for our 2026 Fund Drive. To date, we have had 61 household pledges for a total of $235,098. We have had several members increase their pledges with a second one time pledge. We celebrate the generosity of our members and friends!

Over the past weeks, we have heard feedback from members during our special meetings and the Council and Finance Committee. We have adjusted our goal to 270K to match the proposed budget from the Finance Committee.

We trust that as the Stewardship Committee reaches out to the current yet pledging friends and members, that we will reach this current goal of 270K.

To clarify common questions: Yes, we need a new completed pledge form every year. Yes, there are several options to pay: you can pay by a check from your bank or other financial institution; pay by an automatic withdrawal from your checking account or credit card; pay by PayPal. Yes, since our expenses increase each year, an increase in pledge amount makes a difference. Yes, you can place your pledge form in the offertory basket, bring it to the office or mail it in. Yes, we recognize that many give of their time and talent which adds substantial savings to our expenses.

We look forward to seeing you at our Congregational Meeting, this Sunday, June 28th!

“Together, we soar to great heights!”

Save The Date!

July 7 at 10am

Calling all beach lovers! If you are ready for a little service, fellowship, and fun under the sun in God's creation, I hope you will join us for our upcoming beach cleanup. We are caretaking the beach where quite a few of us have been baptized in this church.

We meet in the dirt parking lot past the ranger's station at 10am for a few words of welcome and orientation, and to distribute supplies. If you have work gloves like gardening gloves, you may wish to bring those. Likewise, if you prefer collecting trash in a bucket rather than a bag, you can bring one from home. Sun protection and closed toed shoes are recommended. We are usually only out there for an hour or so, but it's amazing to see the difference we can make as a group in that period of time!

Please let Lanakila Iesū know ahead of time if you're planning on joining in.

Children, Youth, and Families: PRIDE!

PRIDE Month is a great month for stories and for celebrating who we are!

This week we're sharing "Stonewall" by Rob Sanders. This story tells of the origins of Pride Month by sharing the story of the Stonewall Riot as told from the perspective of the building. So much has changed over time and we have made great strides for LGBTQIAA+ rights. The story of Stonewall reminds us of the history for which we can be thankful and the figures from history that helped bring us here.

Buildings and Grounds Poetry: Mower Haiku

One of the many tasks of the Buildings and Grounds committee is to mow the upper terrace for fire safety. Beginning in early spring, we mow the terrace at least four times, ending when the rainy season ends and the grass stops growing. This is a series of haiku verses (with illustrations) generated by AI to document the work. It was fun working with multiple AI engines to make these poems and images. I offer them for your entertainment.

--Bill Walton

I. February

Late winter rains done — the meadow calls me back out. Time to begin again.

II. The Mower

Silent electric hum, no exhaust, just turning wheels — the grass yields gently.

III. The Raven

He walks the cut edge, inspecting each fallen stalk — not pleased, not displeased.

IV. The Hawk

Red tail tilts, then dives — the mower flushes his lunch. We work well together.

V. The Eucalyptus

Straight toward the tall grove — the cut line follows my boot. Half done. Half to go.

VI. Two Fridays

One battery gone — the tall May grass wants more time. I'll come back next week.

VII. Fire Season

I mow not for beauty — these dry hills hold a quick spark. This is care, not art.

VIII. June

Last row of the year. The raven tilts his head once — good enough, he says.
