Pastor Note: from the Rev. David Pattee

This Sunday, our congregation’s annual meeting will take stock of where we are, celebrate the accomplishments of the last year, and articulate a plan for the months ahead.  There is a lot to encourage us, and we can expect it to be a great meeting.  But laced in with the hopefulness of this moment there will be an undeniable sadness as we recognize one of our greatest achievements in 2024-25, the successful completion of a capital campaign, without one of its most energetic and visionary leaders, Elizabeth Schilling, who died very unexpectedly of idiopathic lung disease, June 25.

Elizabeth was a servant-leader in our church, involved with youth ministry and COPA along with her work on the campaign and many other commitments in the community.  It feels right that our annual meeting this Sunday should be filled with gratitude, remembering Elizabeth and all those who have invested so generously and creatively in our mission.

I’ll see you in church.

Dave

The flowers this Sunday morning will be in memory of our committee member and dear friend Elizabeth Schilling. Her dedication, her out-of-the box creativity, her eye for beauty, her joyful can-do spirit and her extravagant hospitality enriched our committee and our lives.

Please continue to sign up to bring flowers to enhance our worship experience on Sunday mornings. Sign up in the narthex or email Lynette mlette117@gmail,com.

Stewardship Update

The Annual Fund pledges support our annual budget which is currently proposed to be 275,000, the same as our current projected amount to be at the close of this month.

Currently we have 75 household pledging, with $201,688 pledged. And we have over 100 members.

We made a puzzle of the image of our beautiful church with a double rainbow. I don’t know if anybody will ever catch a picture of the church under a double rainbow again. We hope to get the 100 piece puzzle completed. Each piece represents a pledge. Be part of this Annual Fund.

In December, all the council members pledged for the Capital Campaign. We have encouraged all the council members to pledge to the Annual Fund, too. And all of our members. Will you join us?

I was talking to a friend about how she funds issues. She sends in many pledges. Those pledges add up, but what’s really important is what her pledge does to each of those campaigns that she contributes to. It adds another person to their account,

which they then can go to whoever they need to to say, “We have this many people who care about this issue.”

.

In a similar manner, if you have not pledged, I would encourage you to pledge so that we can count you and be able to say, “Yes, we have 100% of our members contributing.”

How can you pledge?

  • OR use the trifold available in the Narthex or office. This form can be placed in the offertory basket or mailed to the office of PUCC.

Faithfully,

Lisa Hoesing, Co-chair of Stewardship

We Are Public!

We are in the public phase of our Capital Campaign and we hope you will help us spread the word. We have created a GoFundMe account and ask you to forward the appeal electronically to your friends and relatives. Then they can donate with a simple click.

We imagine acting as one body on this effort and ask that you to set aside time to forward the message.

CYF Theme: PRIDE

Happy last week of PRIDE MONTH! Our CYF theme for the month has been Pride! We've been sharing stories about love, diversity, resilience, and inclusion. Our last story for the month is called "Stonewall" by Rob Sanders. This story tells us about the Stonewall Uprising, the origin of the LGBTQ+ Rights Movement and Pride Month, from the perspective of the building and the changes it saw throughout history. We hope this story can help educate young and old alike about this important event and its ripples throughout history.

You can find the story here:  https://youtu.be/u_3FXO84yOg

Comprehensive Campaign - A Place for Peace

Thank you for making your pledges so promptly.

Your Capital Campaign dollars at work!

Repairs to the exterior of the buildings are underway and painting the preschool buildings begin next week. Buildings and Grounds are working with a termite exterminator to determine the extent of the damage and a plan for remediation.

The Comprehensive Campaign  is an invitation to support the church’s mission in three important ways.

  • Capital Funds are for deferred maintenance and improvement of our facilities with a goal of $500,000. Donations are payable over three years.
  • Annual Funds are pledged each year and are used for operating expenses including staff wages, all our programs, insurance, utilities and financial participation with mission partners like Prophets of Hope, COPA, AFC and UCC missions. The goal is 100 pledges and $300,000.
  • Legacy Funds come from your designation of Peace United Church of Christ as a beneficiary in your will/estate plan and are used for projects that you designate or new initiatives such as upgrading AV technology.

Star Spangled Beach Cleanup

Saturday, July 5th 10am

Natural Bridges

State Beach

It's time for another trip to the beach to enjoy and help preserve this beautiful part of God's creation together!

Although most visitors to Natural Bridges are conscientious, inadvertent littering is especially likely to build up over a holiday. Fireworks in particular add to the debris, so the beach really needs an extra boost on July 5th. That's where we step in and make a difference, protecting what we love!

To join in the fun and service, please contact Lanakila (lanakila@lanakilamusic.com) to receive liability waivers that need to be filled out, and a parking pass for the morning. Bring sun protection, closed in shoes, and work gloves if you have them, like gardening gloves. We will meet in the dirt parking lot past the rangers' station by Lanakila's truck (white Toyota Tacoma with a covered bed)
