Here is the precise wording of the motion:

Motion to be set to a vote for approval, Sunday, October 27, at a special congregational meeting of Peace United Church of Christ:

The congregation endorses a comprehensive fundraising campaign to be conducted over three years, inviting commitments to a capital funds goal of $500,000, to continuing support of the church's annual fund (stewardship drive), and to include Peace United Church of Christ as a beneficiary of estate plans.”

Kaffee Klatsches

During our Campaign Feasibility Study, members suggested some great topics for discussion. As a result, we have scheduled a further series of Kaffee Klatsches on Sunday mornings after church. Bring your coffee and snacks into the Fellowship Hall on the following Sundays for these meetings and discussion groups:

October 27 – Congregational Meeting in Sanctuary after services to approve the Capital Campaign.

November 3 – Reclaiming Stewardship - Lisa Hoesing

November 10 – What is a Not-For-Profit Organization? Susan Thistlethwaite

November 24 - Planned Giving and Legacy Gifts – Cathy Sarto.

Pastor Note: from the Rev. David Pattee

Sunday, November 3, our celebration of Holy Communion at 10:30am will include a remembrance of those in our community who have died in the last year. You are invited to bring a photograph or some other small artifact of a loved one you would remember to become a part of our setting for this service.

The custom of offering prayers of remembrance on the first Sunday of November comes from the more ancient observance of All Saints Day, November 1st. The Hallow’een celebrated on October 31st exists because it is the eve of All Hallows, All Saints Day, which we will generally move to the closest Sunday.

All Saints Sunday is an occasion to be grateful for those through whom we’ve caught a glimpse of life’s deepest meaning, people who have shown us what makes it good, and whose witness gives us courage and calls us to the human dignity and creativity ordained by God. On All Saints Sunday we give thanks for those whose legacy invites us to fall in love with God anew.

I’ll see you in church.

Pastor Dave

Featured Ministry: October

Prophets of Hope

Prophets of Hope is a jail ministry team serving our siblings (and families) who are incarcerated in Santa Cruz County Jail and Juvenile Detention Center. We are a ministry of accompaniment and advocacy with the core of our ministry being with those who are navigating the criminal system.

Beach Cleanup

Calling all ocean lovers! Our last beach cleanup of 2024 will be on Tuesday, October 29, at 10am.

Plenty of spooky and surprising stuff is happening in town for people to enjoy during Halloween week, but the fish and seabirds don't want anything scary in the sand! Let's give them a healthy treat and make the beach a better place for everyone.

Thank you, Lanakila

CYF - The Rainbow of God’s Creatures IV

The joy shared by our youth warmed the hearts of our community. Last weekend’s cumulation with our Kids’ Night Out, followed by Family Service on Sunday and the Blessing of the Beasts brought more joy. Thank you to our volunteers and leadership.

As we close this month’s theme of the rainbow of God’s creatures, we invite you to view animals from a different perspective, what music has to offer. Check out this link: Carnival of the Animals by Saint-Saëns

Did you share with others what animal you would be and WHY? Read the Prayer of Peace by St. Francis, patron saint of animals? Or watch a nature show?

I hope that even if you don’t have a young one in your household that you have been encouraged to view how the animal world reflects God’s presence in your life.

This wraps up our monthly theme. November’s theme will be Gratitude. Please reach out to to cyf@peaceunited.org if you have any questions, suggestions or concerns.

Senior PerennialsOur “over 55” group meets on the 3rd Sunday of the month from about 11:45 (after church) until 1 PM. Please get your coffee and then join us –usually in the Lounge. We welcome others to drop in if the topic is of interest

November 17th—Susie Land will share a concert from the choir’s European trip. More details as the date gets closer!

December 15th—Matt Broadbent will facilitate our time of sharing our favorite Christmas carols and their history. We will be in the Fellowship Hall so that we can have the piano to accompany us as we sing them.

We have suggestions for 2025 but could use some help! Please contact Lynn if you’d like to assist with planning.

We hope to see you at these final 2024 meetings!

Lynn & Lote

Loving God, keep us in the Amazing Grace that is ours through Jesus Christ, in whose Holy Name we pray

  • For Dave Furnish and his family, displaced by a house fire.
  • Continuing prayers for Lisa Johnson and Stan Cunningham.
  • For family and friends struggling with physical and mental illnesses, addictions, and disabilities.
  • For the many who grieve losses: departed loved ones, health problems, lost dreams.
  • For victims of Hurricanes Helene and Milton, and those worldwide facing natural disasters.
  • For victims of gun violence and for those who fight against it.
  • For those who are incarcerated and their families, and for all without housing.
  • For the people of Israel, Gaza, Lebanon, Sudan, and Ukraine.

With gratitude

  • For families, children and students in our congregation and for our CYF (Children Youth & Families) program leaders and helpers.
  • For President Jimmy Carter’s 100th birthday on October 1.
  • For our upcoming election season, election workers, and most of all those who sacrificed to keep our country free.
  • For all who speak God’s true message of love, justice, and peacemaking, and all who choose love.

Thank You, in Jesus’ Holy Healing Name, Amen!
