In the News

Pets of the Homeless participated in the annual Nevada Day Parade on Saturday, October 29th.    This year marked the 152nd birthday party for Nevada!  The first Nevada Day Parade in Carson City took place in 1938 and remains a very special event!  No other state in the country has an admissions day parade that is as big or has been

held for as long as Nevada.

It has been a dream of our Founder, Genevieve Frederick to have Pets of the Homeless participate in the parade.  This year, Pets of the Homeless sponsored a red wagon as part of the Red Wagon Network.  Genevieve, her daughter Renee, Executive Director, and their family, children, and grandchildren handed out candy, Pets of the Homeless bags and rack cards to spectators along the parade route.

Michael Hohl Motor Company in Carson City, held a month long "Give A Dog A Bone" pet food drive during the month of October.

Donors received a free Corley Ranch pumpkin.  All pet food donations will be delivered to FISH in North Carson City.  The Reno Corvette Club dropped by on a Saturday afternoon to help our cause!  Thank you Michael Hohl Motor Company for sponsoring this event once again.  We sincerely appreciate your long term effort!

Sega

Pets of the Homeless received a call from a woman who was helping Sega, a Retriever mix who is owned by a homeless man in Springfield, OR. Sega and his guardian were both hit by a car. His owner was hospitalized for serious injuries and Sega was transported to an emergency veterinarian. This compassionate woman had exhausted her credit cards helping Sega with emergency treatment. Sega had two broken legs. His front leg would heal with a splint, but the back leg needed surgery with a plate and screws.

Pets of the Homeless' case manager called different veterinarians and organizations in Eugene OR seeking assistance.  Santa Clara Animal Hospital was willing to help with the surgery. The surgery would normally cost approximately $3,795 but the doctor was willing to help and write off the balance. Pets of the Homeless contributed the maximum benefit allowable to help with Sega's surgery.
We called Sega's guardian in the hospital and he was very grateful Pets of the Homeless was helping with Sega's surgery. He still needs to undergo a few more surgeries himself.

Mr. Speckles
A homeless woman who lives in a tent in San Jose, CA called Pets of the Homeless about her 5 year old Jack Russell Chihuahua mix, Mr. Speckles. Mr. Speckles was sneezing profusely and his nose had been bleeding.
Mr. Speckles is a bit groggy!
She took him to an emergency veterinary clinic prior to the weekend but she didn't have the money to do any tests. The vet stopped the bleeding.
Pets of the Homeless approved an examination. The veterinarian recommended to do a foxtail search. Pets of the Homeless assisted with blood work, sedation, foxtail search, and antibiotics. Mr. Speckles had a foxtail in his nose and it was removed.
