May is Mental Health Month – a national movement that aims to spread awareness about the importance of mental wellness, increase access to mental health care, and celebrate recovery. This month is an opportunity to educate ourselves, share and access support, and commit to building a brighter future for the more than 1 in 5 individuals who experience a mental health disorder.

At The REACH Institute, we remain steadfastly committed to this cause, especially as it pertains to children and adolescents. Read on for some exciting news from this past month at REACH, including new scholarship awards and a feature in POLITICO.

This Mental Health Month, I encourage you to get involved in a way that feels right for you. For ideas and resources, follow REACH on social media where we’ll be sharing tips and action items all month long.

Thank you for being a valued member of our community.

Congratulations, Scholarship Recipients!

REACH has awarded scholarships to 11 exceptional providers for our Patient-Centered Mental Health in Pediatric Primary Care (PPP) training program. These clinicians are providing critical care to children and adolescents from rural Texas to urban Louisiana to residential detention programs in Massachusetts. Their REACH training will equip them with foundational tools for diagnosing and treating mental health disorders.

We are currently accepting applications for our next round of PPP scholarships - apply by June 3!

REACH in the Community

A school nurse and a student

In April, REACH led a specialized mental health training for school nurses, in partnership with the School Health Committee of the Virginia Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). Participants learned to recognize and address the signs of youth anxiety and depression.

Equipping school nurses with this vital skill set will have a profound impact on student wellbeing. We look forward to offering more training opportunities like this in the future.
