2017 Summer Newsletter | Staten Island SBDC
Director's Message
Observing students registering for classes and getting their parking permits is a reminder that summer is over at CSI. Classes began on Friday, August 25th.

It sure went fast, didn’t it?

The SBDC has had a busy summer integrating within the newly formed Economic Development Division at CSI and expanding our partnership activities on Staten Island and South Brooklyn. Enjoy reading about our new marketing initiatives and we hope to see you at an upcoming event. Welcome back to all!

Best regards,

Dean L. Balsamini

College of Staten Island Construction

Attention clients, visitors, and CSI students/faculty:
Please be advised that CSI is undergoing road work construction of Loop Road. During this first phase, some parking lots and roads are unavailable. As school is back in session, parking may be limited. When traveling to campus we urge you to be cognizant of shifting traffic patterns, arrive early, and allow extra time for travel both to and from the campus.

To access our main office, it is recommended to enter from the main entrance on Victory Blvd. and proceed straight to the Loop closest to Building 1P (Center for the Arts). The nearest parking lot is available through the Detour by Building 2A. Parking passes are available at the Guard Booth upon entering campus.

For any questions, concerns, or assistance, feel free to call the office for arrangements - 718-982-2560.

Commercial Recycling Rules Enforced
As of August 1st, NYC enforced new business recycling rules.

Businesses play a crucial role in protecting our environment and achieving the Mayor's goal of reducing commercial waste by 90% by 2030. In addition to lowering costs by avoiding common sanitation violations, businesses can benefit by reducing their carbon footprint, maintaining a clean property, and increasing their competitive edge.

Since 1992 all businesses in NYC have been required to separate recyclables from garbage. In 2016, DSNY simplified the business recycling rules to increase commercial recycling.

These new rules require all businesses in NYC to recycle metal; glass bottles and jars; rigid plastics; beverage cartons; and paper and cardboard.

If your business did not receive an official notice or would like to receive training on the new rules, please visit the business resource page .
