Here’s what Community Board 8 and other city agencies are considering that could impact Carnegie Hill. We’re closely tracking proposals, hearings, and decisions that shape our neighborhood and affect our community.
Proposed Cannabis Dispensary on Madison Avenue
(near East 94th Street)
At the December 2 meeting of Community Board 8’s Street Life Committee, an application was scheduled for review for an adult-use retail cannabis dispensary at 1339 Madison Avenue (between East 93rd and 94th Streets). The applicant, Blushed Petals LLC, had applied to the New York State Office of Cannabis Management (OCM) for a retail dispensary license. The item was withdrawn on the day of the hearing without explanation and was not discussed. It may return to the Committee’s agenda in early January.
East 95th Street Rear Yard Addition
A revised proposal for a rear yard addition at 133 East 95th Street was presented to Community Board 8’s Landmarks Committee on December 15. Although the proposal was reduced from its original design, CHN and many neighbors on the Goat Hill block continue to believe it remains too large for the historic rear yard “donut” that defines the block. CHN, along with numerous neighbors, testified in opposition at the meeting. The Landmarks Committee voted to disapprove the proposal. The next step is an advisory vote by the CB8 Full Board on Wednesday. Following that vote, the application will proceed to a public hearing before the Landmarks Preservation Commission, expected in early January.
