Meet our Lawn Crew

Have you noticed how nice the church lawn looks throughout the year? We have our volunteer lawn crew to thank! This group of St. Elizabeth youth, led by Bill Harbilas, works a half day every other Saturday from spring to fall, plus every 1-2 months in the winter. They focus on mowing, edging, and blowing.

"It's hard work, hot, and buggy in the summer," said Harbilas, who teaches the skills needed and also maintains the equipment. "This is a hardworking bunch. They have a good time together, but they listen. The best part is immediately seeing the results of our labor when we're done."

Being on the lawn crew provides an opportunity, especially for young people, to serve their community. However, some of the equipment is several years old. Harbilas is looking to raise funds to purchase a new lawn mower.
If you would like to help, or donate funds, contact Bill Harbilas (352) 339-3665,

contributed by Dr. Florin Curta

We have been dreaming about it for a long time. The idea of having a multi-purpose facility next to our church was already in the air when, together with my family, I joined the little congregation at St. Elizabeth Greek Orthodox Church of Gainesville, more than 20 years ago. The initial plan was to have the building erected for occasional events in our congregation, and to rent it out as a source of income for our parish.

Staying Connected
