Frequent Soccer Ball 'Heading' May Lead to Brain Injury

Studies done at Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University have found evidence that soccer players who frequently head the ball have similar brain abnormalities to those found in patients with concussion.

A research study has found similarities in the effects of concussion on fruit fly brains and human brains. These similarities may eventually lead to the development of drugs to block the damage caused by concussions, as well as diagnostic markers that can be used to more reliably diagnose a concussion.

Study Finds Concussions Common in Teens

A Canadian study finds that at least 1 in 5 teenagers has probably sustained a concussion. There is also some evidence to suggest a link between mild TBI (traumatic brain injury) and poor grades and alcohol/drug consumption.
