TREW UNVEILS NEW GLOBAL HQ AND MANUFACTURING FACILITY IN WEST CHESTER
Trew LLC, a leading automated materials handling solutions provider, is proud to introduce its new global headquarters and manufacturing facility at 10045 International Boulevard in West Chester Township.
Trew provides automated material handling solutions for integrators and end users, including Warehouse Execution Systems, Warehouse Control Systems, PLC- and server-based machine controls, conventional and motorized driven roller conveyors, and services such as concepting, engineering, technical support, parts, field service and training.
Serving the North American retail, warehouse, distribution, manufacturing and e-commerce industries, Trew’s experienced staff and broad network of integrated partners enable uncommonly smart solutions scalable to any material handling needs.
This project is Trew’s third major expansion in five years in the Southwest Ohio region. The additional space further fast-tracks Trew’s growth while creating an additional 190 full-time positions.
Trew plans to accelerate investments in developing automation technologies, warehouse execution software, and creating world-class manufacturing, innovation and client support facilities in the region.
“The material handling automation market and our clients’ fulfillment and distribution capabilities continue to rapidly transform,” shared Alfred Rebello, Trew Chief Executive Officer. "The expansion to our campus will continue to fuel our growth. This region has a strong tradition of high-quality material handling labor and the manufacturing infrastructure that our clients and partners can trust in that Trew will continue deliver innovative on-time solutions.”
Trew chose Ohio for its expansion and investments due to the availability of engineering talent, speed at which expanded manufacturing infrastructure can be brought online, accessibility to multiple customers who have retail and e-commerce distribution centers, and the willingness of organizations to help businesses access resources to enable growth.

KATY KANELOPOULOS HIRED TO CONTINUE AARON WIEGAND'S LEGACY
West Chester Township Administrator, Larry D. Burks and the Board of Trustees promoted Katy Kanelopolous as Director to lead the West Chester Community Development team.
Katy assumed responsibilities and has been acting director since the passing of previous director Aaron Wiegand in December. Aaron encouraged staff to seek professional development in pursuit of exceptional service to the community. Throughout his long public fight with cancer, Aaron was committed to team building and Katy has that same outlook.
The Community Development Department focuses on the Township’s economic development efforts, township planning, zoning enforcement and permitting. The staff of the Community Development Department are experienced professionals, serving the residential and business communities as a one-stop shop for those who require assistance in these areas.
West Chester Township has a reputation for being business friendly and seeking the implementation of highest and best use for the sustainability of the community. The Community Development team works to streamline property maintenance and permitting processes for customers and support new and existing businesses. In the coming months, the Community Development team will also unveil and oversee the implementation of a new zoning resolution.
“I’m excited to continue the business-friendly excellent customer service the Community Development Department is known for providing and working with Township Administration and the Board of Trustees to retain the marketability and sustainability of the community,” Katy said. “I’m looking forward to leading the team and continuing the success of West Chester.”
Katy, a graduate of Ball State University, has worked as the Economic Development Manager for the past two years. Katy’s excellent collaboration and management skills have supported creation of nearly 2,000 new jobs, retention of more than 3,900 jobs, and addition of nearly 5 million square-feet of new projects totaling more than $119 million in capital investment—an amazing feat in just two years.
As a small business owner in a neighboring community, Katy has a heart for supporting small, family-owned businesses and doing what she can to help them succeed. In 2023, Katy implemented West Chester’s SPARK Grant Program—the township’s first small business revitalization grant program for existing West Chester businesses with $114,000 awarded to small businesses for improvement projects.
West Chester currently seeks public input on zoning matters in the community and the service of the Community Development Department itself. Find the survey at https://www.westchesteroh.org/government/general-government/zoning-code-updates.

KEEPING UP WITH KATY K
West Chester is hot, and it's not just the weather. We've taken in more than 500 permits this year so far, and there is no sign of the action cooling off. Hopefully, you've been staying cool at one of our Takeover on The Square Thursday night concerts, the UCBMA Food Truck Rally, or Taps, Tastes, and Tunes over the 4th of July holiday. We've had a lot of big things happening this summer.
West Chester is making a significant investment to transform the heart of our events, The Square @ Union Centre. The conceptual drawings promise a permanent stage space, new splash fountains, shade structures and bench swings. The project is expected to kick off this fall. This revitalization is not just about aesthetics; it's about creating a more enjoyable and vibrant community space for all. The $50 million Clock Tower apartments, a 326-unit luxury, multi-family community located on Towne Square, is now leasing, and some home units are scheduled to open this summer. The new residents will surely appreciate the enhanced public space.
Dirt-moving on Cincinnati Dayton Road at Union Centre Boulevard is making room for two luxury apartment complexes. The Ellington (Hills Development) and The Noble (NorthPoint Development). They are being built simultaneously. We expect to see other retail and restaurant developments on this key piece of land, as the prospect of new residents in the area has piqued interest.
As mentioned earlier in this newsletter, I have been promoted to Community Development Director. It is a great honor and privilege to take on this new role and continue the people-first, business-friendly approach that has been the focus of West Chester Township. I want to express my deep gratitude to the fantastic Community Development team: Bernie, Beverly, Bryan, Jan, Jen, Marilyn, Tim, and Vicki. West Chester will fill the Economic Development Manager position in the coming months.
